Bhu Suktam

bhūmirbhūmnā dyauriva variṇā antarikṣaṃ mahitvā | upasthe te devi adite agnimannādamannādyāyādadhe ||1||

हे पृथ्वी, आप द्युलोक और अंतरिक्ष की तरह विशाल हैं। हे देवी अदिति, आपकी गोद में अन्नभोजी और अन्नदाता अग्नि स्थापित हैं।

O Earth, vast in greatness like heaven and mid-space, O divine Aditi, in your lap is placed Agni, the eater and giver of food.

āyaṃ gauḥ pṛśnirakramīdasadanmātaraṃ puraḥ | pitaraṃ ca prayantsvaḥ ||2||

यह पृश्नि गौ समान पृथ्वी आगे बढ़ती है, माता को प्राप्त करती हुई और पिता स्वरूप स्वर्ग की ओर अग्रसर होती हुई।

This radiant Earth-cow moves forward, reaching the Mother before her and moving toward the Father, the heavenly realm.

triṃśaddhāma virājati vākpataṅgāya dhīyate | pratyasya vaha dyubhiḥ ||3||

पृथ्वी अनेक पवित्र धामों में प्रकाशित होती है और स्वर्गीय ज्योति के नीचे वाणी, विचार और जीवन को धारण करती है।

The Earth shines through many sacred stations, carrying speech, thought, and life beneath the lights of heaven.

asya prāṇādapānatyantaścarati rocanam | vyakhyanmahiṣaḥ suvaḥ ||4||

प्राण और अपान की गति से पृथ्वी के क्षेत्र में ज्योतिर्मय जगत् संचरित होता है; महान् शक्ति उच्च प्रकाश को प्रकट करती है।

Through the movement of prana and apana, the luminous world moves within Earth’s field; the mighty one reveals the higher light.

yat te bhūme vikhanimi kṣipraṃ tadapi rohatu | mā te marma vimṛgvarī mā te hṛdayamarpipam ||5||

हे भूमि, मैं आपसे जो भी खोदूँ, वह शीघ्र पुनः उग आए। मैं आपके मर्मस्थल या हृदय को आहत न करूँ।

O Earth, whatever I dig from you, may it quickly grow again. May I not injure your vital points or harm your heart.

mātā bhūmiḥ putro'haṃ pṛthivyāḥ | parjanyaḥ pitā sa u naḥ pipartu ||6||

भूमि मेरी माता है; मैं पृथ्वी का पुत्र हूँ। वर्षा देने वाले पिता पर्जन्य हमारा पोषण करें।

Earth is my Mother; I am the child of Earth. Parjanya, the rain-bearing Father, may nourish us.
