Mookambika Ashtakam

namaste jagaddhātri sadbrahmarūpe namaste haropendradhātrādivandye | namaste prapanneṣṭadānaikadakṣe namaste mahālakṣmi kolāpureśi ||1||

हे जगद्धात्री, सद्ब्रह्मरूपिणी, तुम्हें नमस्कार। हर, उपेन्द्र, धाता आदि द्वारा वंदित, तुम्हें नमस्कार। शरणागतों की इच्छाएँ पूर्ण करने में अद्वितीय दक्ष, तुम्हें नमस्कार। हे महालक्ष्मि, कोलापुरेशि, तुम्हें नमस्कार।

Salutations to you, sustainer of the universe, whose form is the eternal Brahman. Salutations to you, worshipped by Hara, Upendra, and Dhatr (Shiva, Vishnu, and Brahma) among others. Salutations to you, uniquely skilled at granting the wishes of those who surrender to you. Salutations to you, O Mahalakshmi, sovereign Goddess of Kolapura.

vidhiḥ kṛttivāsā harirviśvame- tatsṛjatyatti pātīti yattatprasiddham | kṛpālokanādeva te śaktirūpe namaste mahālakṣmi kolāpureśi ||2||

यह प्रसिद्ध है कि ब्रह्मा सृजन करते हैं, कृत्तिवासा शिव संहार करते हैं और हरि पालन करते हैं -- किन्तु हे शक्तिरूपिणी, यह सब तुम्हारी कृपादृष्टि से ही संभव होता है। हे महालक्ष्मि, कोलापुरेशि, तुम्हें नमस्कार।

It is well known that Brahma creates, Shiva (clad in hide) destroys, and Vishnu preserves this universe -- yet it is only by your merciful glance, O embodiment of Shakti, that they are able to perform these acts. Salutations to you, O Mahalakshmi, sovereign Goddess of Kolapura.

tvayā māyayā vyāptametatsamastaṃ dhṛtaṃ līyase devi kukṣau hi viśvam | sthitāṃ buddhirūpeṇa sarvatra jantau namaste mahālakṣmi kolāpureśi ||3||

तुम्हारी माया से यह समस्त विश्व व्याप्त है; हे देवी, तुम अपने उदर में इस विश्व को धारण भी करती हो और लीन भी करती हो, और हर प्राणी में सर्वत्र बुद्धिरूप से स्थित हो। हे महालक्ष्मि, कोलापुरेशि, तुम्हें नमस्कार।

By your Maya this entire universe is pervaded; O Goddess, you both bear and dissolve the universe within your own womb, and you abide everywhere, in every being, in the form of intelligence itself. Salutations to you, O Mahalakshmi, sovereign Goddess of Kolapura.

yayā bhaktavargā hi lakṣyanta ete tvayā'tra prakāmaṃ kṛpāpūrṇadṛṣṭyā | ato gīyase devi lakṣmīriti tvaṃ namaste mahālakṣmi kolāpureśi ||4||

जिस कृपापूर्ण दृष्टि से तुम यहाँ भक्तजनों को प्रचुर मात्रा में देखती और अनुगृहीत करती हो, हे देवी, उसी कारण तुम 'लक्ष्मी' कहलाती हो। हे महालक्ष्मि, कोलापुरेशि, तुम्हें नमस्कार।

Since these hosts of devotees are so abundantly noticed and blessed by you here with a glance full of compassion, O Goddess, you are therefore celebrated as 'Lakshmi.' Salutations to you, O Mahalakshmi, sovereign Goddess of Kolapura.

punarvākpaṭutvādihīnā hi mūkā narāstairnikāmaṃ khalu prārthyase yat | nijeṣṭāptaye tena mūkāmbikā tvaṃ namaste mahālakṣmi kolāpureśi ||5||

जो वाक्पटुता आदि से रहित मूक मनुष्य अपनी अभीष्ट सिद्धि के लिए तुम्हीं से एकाग्र होकर प्रार्थना करते हैं, इसी कारण तुम मूकाम्बिका कहलाती हो। हे महालक्ष्मि, कोलापुरेशि, तुम्हें नमस्कार।

Furthermore, since mute men, devoid of eloquence and the power of speech, earnestly pray to you alone for the attainment of their own desire, you are therefore called Mookambika. Salutations to you, O Mahalakshmi, sovereign Goddess of Kolapura.

yadadvaitarūpātparabrahmaṇastvaṃ samutthā punarviśvalīlodyamasthā | tadāhurjanāstvāṃ ca gaurīṃ kumārīṃ namaste mahālakṣmi kolāpureśi ||6||

क्योंकि तुम अद्वैत परब्रह्म से ही समुत्पन्न हो और विश्व-लीला के कार्य में सदा संलग्न हो, इसीलिए लोग तुम्हें गौरी और कुमारी भी कहते हैं। हे महालक्ष्मि, कोलापुरेशि, तुम्हें नमस्कार।

Since you arose from the non-dual form of the Supreme Brahman, and you stand engaged in the playful activity of the universe, people therefore also call you Gauri and Kumari. Salutations to you, O Mahalakshmi, sovereign Goddess of Kolapura.

hareśādi dehotthatejomayapra- sphuraccakrarājākhyaliṅgasvarūpe | mahāyogikolarṣihṛtpadmagehe namaste mahālakṣmi kolāpureśi ||7||

हर, ईश आदि के देहों से उत्पन्न तेज से प्रस्फुरित चक्रराज नामक लिंग-स्वरूपिणी, महायोगी कोल ऋषि के हृदय-कमल में निवास करने वाली, हे महालक्ष्मि, कोलापुरेशि, तुम्हें नमस्कार।

O you whose form is the radiant, blazing Linga known as Chakraraja (the Sri Chakra), born of the splendor arising from the bodies of Shiva, Vishnu, and other deities; O you who dwell in the lotus-heart of the great yogi, sage Kola. Salutations to you, O Mahalakshmi, sovereign Goddess of Kolapura.

namaḥ śaṅkhacakrābhayābhīṣṭahaste namaḥ tryambake gauri padmāsanasthe | namaḥ svarṇavarṇe prasanne śaraṇye namaste mahālakṣmi kolāpureśi ||8||

शंख, चक्र, अभय और वरद मुद्रा धारण करने वाले हाथों वाली, त्र्यम्बके गौरी, पद्मासनस्थिते, स्वर्णवर्णे, प्रसन्न शरण्ये, हे महालक्ष्मि, कोलापुरेशि, तुम्हें नमस्कार।

Salutations to you who hold the conch and discus, and who grant fearlessness and boons with your hands. Salutations to you, three-eyed Gauri, seated on the lotus throne. Salutations to you of golden hue, ever gracious, the refuge of all. Salutations to you, O Mahalakshmi, sovereign Goddess of Kolapura.

idaṃ stotraratnaṃ kṛtaṃ sarvadevai- rhṛdi tvāṃ samādhāya lakṣmyaṣṭakaṃ yaḥ | paṭhennityameṣa vrajatyāśu lakṣmīṃ sa vidyāṃ ca satyaṃ bhavettatprasādāt ||9||

यह स्तोत्ररत्न सभी देवताओं द्वारा रचित है। जो तुम्हें हृदय में स्थापित कर इस अष्टक का नित्य पाठ करता है, वह शीघ्र ही लक्ष्मी (कृपा) प्राप्त करता है और उसी कृपा से वह विद्या भी सत्य रूप में प्राप्त करता है।

This jewel of a hymn was composed by all the gods together. Whoever fixes you in his heart and recites this Ashtakam daily quickly attains your grace, and by that grace he truly gains knowledge as well.
