Mahamrityunjaya Mantra (Vedic context) -- the great "victory over death" mantra to Rudra-Shiva (Tryambakam) from the Rigveda and Yajurveda, grouped here with the verses that accompany it in the Sri Rudram and with the Rudra Gayatri. Chanted for healing, protection, longevity, and liberation from fear.
महामृत्युंजय मंत्र (वैदिक संदर्भ) -- ऋग्वेद और यजुर्वेद का रुद्र-शिव (त्र्यंबकम्) को समर्पित महान "मृत्युंजय" मंत्र, यहां श्री रुद्रम् में इसके साथ आने वाले मंत्रों तथा रुद्र गायत्री सहित प्रस्तुत है। उपचार, रक्षा, दीर्घायु और भय-मुक्ति के लिए पढ़ा जाता है।
ॐ त्र्यम्बकं यजामहे सुगन्धिं पुष्टिवर्धनम्। उर्वारुकमिव बन्धनान्मृत्योर्मुक्षीय मामृतात्॥१॥
oṃ tryambakaṃ yajāmahe sugandhiṃ puṣṭivardhanam | urvārukamiva bandhanānmṛtyormukṣīya mā'mṛtāt ||1||
हम त्र्यम्बक भगवान् की उपासना करते हैं, जो सुगंधित और पुष्टि-वर्धक हैं। वे हमें पके फल की तरह मृत्यु के बंधन से मुक्त करें, पर अमृतत्व से नहीं।
We worship the three-eyed Lord, fragrant and nourishing. May He free us from the bondage of death like a ripe cucumber from its stem, but not from immortality.
या ते रुद्र शिवा तनूरघोराऽपापकाशिनी। तया नस्तनुवा शन्तमया गिरिशन्ताभिचाकशीहि॥२॥
yā te rudra śivā tanūr aghorā'pāpakāśinī | tayā nas tanuvā śantamayā giriśantābhicākaśīhi ||2||
हे रुद्र, आपका जो शिव, अघोर और अपाप-प्रकाशक रूप है, उस अत्यंत शांत रूप से, हे गिरिशंत, हम पर कृपादृष्टि करें।
O Rudra, with that auspicious, gentle, non-terrifying form of yours which reveals nothing evil, with that most peaceful form, O Lord of the mountain, look upon us.
यामिषुं गिरिशन्त हस्ते बिभर्ष्यस्तवे। शिवां गिरित्र तां कुरु मा हिंसीः पुरुषं जगत्॥३॥
yām iṣuṃ giriśanta haste bibharṣy astave | śivāṃ giritra tāṃ kuru mā hiṃsīḥ puruṣaṃ jagat ||3||
हे गिरिशंत, आप हाथ में जो बाण चलाने हेतु धारण करते हैं, हे गिरित्र, उसे शुभ करें। किसी मनुष्य या प्राणी को पीड़ा न दें।
O Lord of the mountain, the arrow you hold in hand to shoot, make it auspicious, O protector. Harm neither man nor any living being.
ॐ तत्पुरुषाय विद्महे महादेवाय धीमहि। तन्नो रुद्रः प्रचोदयात्॥४॥
oṃ tatpuruṣāya vidmahe mahādevāya dhīmahi | tanno rudraḥ pracodayāt ||4||
ॐ, हम उस परम पुरुष को जानें; महादेव का ध्यान करें। रुद्र हमारी बुद्धि को प्रेरित करें।
Om, may we know that supreme Purusha; may we meditate on the great God. May Rudra illumine and impel our understanding.
ॐ हौं जूं सः। ॐ भूर्भुवः स्वः। ॐ त्र्यम्बकं यजामहे सुगन्धिं पुष्टिवर्धनम्। उर्वारुकमिव बन्धनान्मृत्योर्मुक्षीय मामृतात्॥ ॐ स्वः भुवः भूः ॐ। सः जूं हौं ॐ॥५॥
oṃ hauṃ juṃ saḥ | oṃ bhūrbhuvaḥ svaḥ | oṃ tryambakaṃ yajāmahe sugandhiṃ puṣṭivardhanam | urvārukamiva bandhanānmṛtyormukṣīya māmṛtāt || oṃ svaḥ bhuvaḥ bhūḥ oṃ | saḥ juṃ hauṃ oṃ ||5||
यह महामृत्युंजय मंत्र का पारंपरिक बीज-संपुटित रूप है, जिसका विस्तृत जप में प्रयोग होता है, जिसमें शिव तथा मृत्युंजय के बीजाक्षर मूल ऋग्वैदिक मंत्र को दोनों ओर से घेरते हैं।
This is the traditional bija-wrapped (samputa) form of the Mahamrityunjaya mantra used in extended japa, where the seed syllables of Shiva and of the death-conquering aspect frame the core Rigvedic verse on both sides.
