Prathamapujya
The deity of the threshold — He who is worshipped first because every beginning needs its foundation cleared, and first is not a rank but a function that makes all subsequent acts possible.

Etymology · व्युत्पत्ति
From 'prathama' (प्रथम) meaning first, foremost — from root 'prath' (प्रथ्, to spread, to become known, to be prominent) — and 'pūjya' (पूज्य) meaning worthy of worship, from root 'pūj' (पूज्, to honour, to revere). Prathamapujya is He who must be worshipped first, before all other deities, before all other acts — the deity of the threshold itself.
अर्थ
हर शुरुआत से पहले एक पल होता है — रुकने का, साँस लेने का, threshold mark करने का। Batsman crease tap करता है। Surgeon हाथ धोता है। माँ kitchen में पहला तड़का लगाने से पहले एक सेकंड रुकती है। वो पल — chaos और intention के बीच — प्रथमपूज्य का है। गणेश इसलिए पहले पूजे जाते हैं क्योंकि वो सबसे powerful हैं नहीं — वो ख़ुद इस claim पर हँसेंगे — बल्कि इसलिए कि शुरुआत के moment में सबसे ज़रूरी वही हैं। बिना threshold साफ़ किए हर अगला क़दम unprepared start का बोझ उठाता है। तुम पूरा मंदिर बना लो, नींव का पत्थर भूल जाओ — खड़ा रहेगा, पर कभी settled नहीं लगेगा। गणेश वो नींव का पत्थर हैं। Grand नहीं, dramatic नहीं, ignore करना आसान — पर बिना उनके structure में एक subtle ग़लती गूँजती रहती है जो कोई finishing ठीक नहीं कर सकती। प्रथम rank नहीं। Function है।
कथा · From tradition
शिव पुराण (रुद्र संहिता, कुमार खण्ड, अध्याय 15) में वो प्रसंग है जिसने यह प्राथमिकता स्थापित की। शिव-पार्वती ने दोनों पुत्रों को चुनौती दी: जो पूरे ब्रह्मांड की परिक्रमा पहले करेगा, वो सबसे पहले पूजा जाएगा। कार्तिकेय मोर पर बैठकर cosmic speed से निकले — तारों, आकाशगंगाओं, लोकों को पार करते। गणेश — गोल पेट, मूषक सवारी — एक पल बैठे रहे। फिर धीरे से उठे और माता-पिता की परिक्रमा की। बैठ गए। शिव ने पूछा तो बोले: 'तुम मेरा ब्रह्मांड हो। माता और पिता में समस्त सृष्टि समाई है। तुम्हारी परिक्रमा ही सब की परिक्रमा।' शिव मुस्कुराए। पार्वती की आँखें भर आईं। उस दिन से गणेश सबसे पहले पूजे गए — इसलिए नहीं कि race जीती, बल्कि इसलिए कि समझा कि source destination से हमेशा क़रीब होता है। कार्तिकेय ने नक़्शा circum किया। गणेश ने territory। यह फ़र्क़ ज़िंदगी भर के चिंतन के लायक़ है।
Modern Context · आज के संदर्भ में
Lucknow, Aminabad। अठारह साल का लड़का, family में पहला जो college जाएगा। Trunk pack — दो bedsheet, cooker, ताला, और दादी के मंदिर की framed photo जो माँ ने चुपके से रख दी। Kanpur की bus सुबह 6 बजे। दरवाज़े पर खड़ा है, जूते पहने, backpack ठीक किया। पापा अख़बार पढ़ने का नाटक कर रहे। माँ रोने का नहीं। छोटी बहन ने glitter pen से 'Best Bhaiya' card बनाया, पीठ पीछे छुपाया, अचानक shy। माँ के पैर छुए। पापा के — पापा ने जिन्होंने कभी 'proud हूँ' नहीं बोला, हाथ एक second ज़्यादा पकड़ा। दहलीज़ पर दादी ने एक छोटा दीया जलाकर उसके चेहरे के आगे घुमाया। यही प्रथमपूज्य है। College admission नहीं। Hostel room नहीं। चार साल बाद आने वाली degree नहीं। पहली पूजा — दहलीज़ का दीया, माँ का हाथ सिर पर, पापा का extra second — यही वो clearing है जो बाद की हर चीज़ को possible बनाती है। बिना इसके bus सिर्फ़ transport है। इसके साथ bus रथ है।
Meditation · ध्यान
Before beginning anything significant — a new job, a new semester, a new city, a new chapter — sit at the threshold of your home. Literally, if possible: the doorstep, the main gate, the entrance. Place your palm flat on the threshold stone. Close your eyes. Breathe in (4 counts): feel the temperature of the stone, the texture, the years of feet that have crossed it. Hold (4 counts): say silently, 'I begin here.' Exhale (4 counts): release the anxiety of what comes next. Repeat 7 times. On the 7th exhale, stand up, step over the threshold, and do not look back. The beginning is complete. What follows has been cleared.
Mantra Practice · मंत्र जप
Chant 21 times — not 108 — at the exact moment of beginning: before stepping out for an exam, before opening a new document, before the first day of anything. Use no mala — count on your fingers, the way your grandmother did. Voice should be barely above a whisper, intimate, private — between you and the elephant-headed god only. The chant is not a performance. It is a clearing.
