All loves are rivers running toward one ocean — the teaching that every form of love is a current in the same sea, and that the ocean is sometimes found in a file labelled 'For After' and an unfinished sentence.

Etymology · व्युत्पत्ति
From 'prema' (प्रेम, the highest divine love) + 'sāgara' (सागर, ocean) — The Ocean of Love. Not a river, not a lake — an ocean. Rivers have sources and destinations. Lakes have boundaries. An ocean has neither. It is the thing all rivers run toward and no shore can contain.

पिछले 100 नामों में हर प्रेम — माखन-बच्चे की शरारत, मित्र की वफ़ादारी, सारथी की सेवा, योद्धा का कर्तव्य, योगी का समत्व, राजा का शासन — नदी। प्रेमसागर जहाँ सब पहुँचती। ऊँचा प्रेम नहीं — सब समेटने वाला। माँ का — नदी। प्रेमी की इच्छा — नदी। मित्र — नदी। गुरु — नदी। अलग, अपना स्वाद, धारा। पर सब एक सागर — अमूर्तता नहीं, विशिष्ट, अभिभूत करने वाला, सीमा-मिटाने वाला अनुभव जहाँ प्रेम करने वाला और किया जाने वाला अलग न हों। तुम्हारा प्रेम — जो भी रूप, अपूर्ण, रोज़ाना — सागर की तरफ़ नदी। खोए नहीं — बह रहे।

चैतन्य चरितामृत (मध्य लीला, अध्याय 2) — चैतन्य महाप्रभु — गौड़ीय वैष्णवों के लिए राधा-कृष्ण संयुक्त अवतार — प्रेम-सागर अनुभव। बेक़ाबू रोते। पुरी में समुद्र तरफ़ दौड़ते — यमुना समझकर। शरीर रंग बदलता। जोड़ प्रेम की तीव्रता से हिलते। भक्त डरते — मर रहे? नहीं — डूब रहे। इतना विशाल प्रेम कि शरीर की संरचना क्षमता पार — नदी बाढ़ में किनारा ढहे। चैतन्य का शरीर किनारा। प्रेम बाढ़। शिक्षा: प्रेम-सागर सुखद आध्यात्मिक अनुभव का रूपक नहीं — शक्ति जो जोड़ हिलाए, पहचान घोले, समुद्र तट पर रोता छोड़े क्योंकि सागर उस नदी जैसा लगा जहाँ भगवान खेले। सबसे ख़तरनाक और सबसे ज़रूरी अनुभव।

पिता छह महीने पहले गए। दिखाने वाले नहीं। Allahabad retired bank manager, cardigan, 5:17 चाय, अख़बार editorial। 'I love you' पूरी ज़िंदगी चार बार — शादी, हर पोते का जन्म। बस। आज काग़ज़ात — file, 'For After.' भीतर: Class 5 report card। School debate जीतते photo। पहला article — laminate करवाया। LinkedIn profile printout 2019 — print किया। अधूरा पत्र: 'बताना चाहता था कि तुम जो बने मेरी ज़िंदगी की सबसे अच्छी बात। मुँह पर कहना नहीं आता। यहाँ लिख रहा कि जब मैं न रहूँ...' वाक्य रुकता। पूरा नहीं। ज़रूरत नहीं। File सागर। हर laminated article, printed profile, अनभेजा शब्द — नदी, सागर जिसे नाम नहीं दे सका। Study के फ़र्श पर 'For After' file पकड़े — सागर कमरे में। सुंदर नहीं। सांत्वनादायक नहीं। अड़सठ साल के bank manager का प्रेम — laminated cuttings, अधूरा वाक्य — सबसे विशाल चीज़ जो कभी पकड़ी। वही प्रेमसागर। सागर को नाम नहीं — खोजना। कभी-कभी file में, बाद में, जैसे सबसे गहरी — कहने को देर, महसूस करने को ठीक वक़्त।
Meditation · ध्यान
Sit and name every form of love you have experienced — parental, romantic, friendship, devotional, professional, the love of a pet, the love of a place. Hold each for 30 seconds. Now let them merge. Do not keep them separate. Let the mother's love and the lover's desire and the friend's loyalty and the stranger's kindness all flow into one body of water. Sit with that ocean for 5 minutes. Notice: it has no shore. Every love you have ever felt is a wave on this surface. In the last 3 minutes, feel yourself not as the one who loves but as the ocean itself — the medium in which all loves happen. That is Premasagara.
Mantra Practice · मंत्र जप
Chant 108 times while holding something that represents love — a letter, a photograph, a gift, a cup. Let each repetition carry a different form of love: one for your mother, one for your partner, one for your child, one for the stranger who was kind. Use a tulsi mala. Best on any evening when love, in any form, has made you ache.
