Etymology · व्युत्पत्ति
From 'ādi' (आदि) meaning the first, the primordial, the beginning before all beginnings — and 'Lakṣmī' (लक्ष्मी). She who is the original Lakshmi — before the Ashta Lakshmi divided her into eight functional forms, before prosperity was categorized into wealth and grain and courage and children. The undivided source from which all forms of abundance flow, as a river is one before it becomes a delta.

इससे पहले कि लक्ष्मी के आठ रूप होते — इससे पहले कि धन की अलग देवी होती और विद्या की अलग और संतान की अलग — बस एक थीं। आदिलक्ष्मी। नदी, डेल्टा बनने से पहले। सफ़ेद रोशनी, प्रिज़्म से गुज़रने से पहले। वो यह शिक्षा हैं कि समृद्धि के सारे रूप जड़ में एक ही ऊर्जा हैं — अलग-अलग रास्तों से बहती हुई। जिसके पास पैसा है पर शांति नहीं — उसके पास धन लक्ष्मी है, आदिलक्ष्मी नहीं। जिसके पास ज्ञान है पर परिवार नहीं सम्भाल पा रहा — उसके पास विद्या लक्ष्मी है, आदिलक्ष्मी नहीं। जब तुम समृद्धि के specific रूपों का पीछा बंद करो और स्रोत-ऊर्जा से जुड़ो — अविभाजित, uncategorized, आदिम प्रचुरता — तब आठों रूप खुद आने लगते हैं, क्योंकि वो कभी अलग थे ही नहीं। हमेशा एक नदी थी, आठ होने का नाटक करती हुई।
कथा · From tradition
अष्ट लक्ष्मी की अवधारणा — लक्ष्मी का आठ रूपों में विभाजन — विभिन्न क्षेत्रीय परंपराओं के अष्ट लक्ष्मी स्तोत्रम में मिलता है। पर मूल ग्रंथ — श्री सूक्तम, लक्ष्मी तंत्र, विष्णु पुराण की प्रारंभिक परतें — ऐसा कोई विभाजन नहीं जानतीं। इन ग्रंथों में लक्ष्मी एक हैं। लक्ष्मी तंत्र (अध्याय 1) में वो कहती हैं: 'मैं अनेक नहीं हूँ। अनेक इसलिए दिखती हूँ क्योंकि तुम अनेक इच्छाओं से मेरे पास आते हो। जब तुम्हारी इच्छा एक हो — स्रोत को जानना — तो मैं एक हूँ। जब इच्छाएँ आठ, मैं आठ। जब हज़ार, मैं हज़ार। पर मैंने कभी विभाजन नहीं किया। तुमने किया।' यही आदिलक्ष्मी की शिक्षा है: रूपों की बहुलता मानवीय सीमा की रियायत है, दैवी सच्चाई नहीं। देवी नहीं बँटी। हमारा ध्यान बँटा। आदिलक्ष्मी फिर से जोड़ने का निमंत्रण हैं — उस एक सुनहरे धागे को देखने का जो तुमने जितनी भी समृद्धि खोजी उन सबमें था, और यह समझने का कि वो हमेशा एक ही धागा था, अलग-अलग कपड़े पहने हुआ।
Modern Context · आज के संदर्भ में
वो तिरपन साल की हैं। पिछले साल इंदौर के एक nationalized bank से retire हुईं — तीस साल की नौकरी, वो किस्म की जहाँ हर चपरासी के बच्चे का नाम पता हो और हर customer का त्योहार। बच्चे settle — बेटी पुणे में, बेटा नोएडा। पति दिन भर news देखते हैं। घर शांत है। तीस साल हर मिनट ज़रूरत थी। अब मिनट उनके हैं और पता नहीं क्या करें। नवरात्रि की एक शाम, पड़ोस के मंदिर गईं — भक्ति से नहीं, क्योंकि घर बहुत स्थिर लगा। पंडित अष्ट लक्ष्मी स्तोत्रम गा रहे। आठ रूप। सब पता हैं — बच्चों की fees के लिए धन लक्ष्मी से प्रार्थना की, exams में विद्या लक्ष्मी से, बेटा तीन महीने का बीमार पड़ा तो संतान लक्ष्मी से। पर आज पहली बार, आठों से पहले का श्लोक सुनती हैं — आदिलक्ष्मी का आह्वान, विभाजन से पहले की एक। और कुछ टूटता है भीतर। समझ आता है कि तीस साल टुकड़ों से माँगती रहीं — यहाँ धन, वहाँ स्वास्थ्य, कहीं साहस — जबकि स्रोत हमेशा एक था, हमेशा उपलब्ध, हमेशा वही सुनहरी उपस्थिति जो बचपन में नानी की गोद में शाम की आरती के समय महसूस होती थी। आठ जगह लक्ष्मी खोजती रहीं। लक्ष्मी एक जगह थीं पूरा वक़्त। आँखें बंद करती हैं। तीस साल में पहली बार कुछ specific नहीं माँगतीं। बस पूर्ण की उपस्थिति में बैठ जाती हैं। और पूर्ण — आदि, मूल, अविभाजित — उनके साथ बैठ जाती हैं।
Meditation · ध्यान
This is the integration meditation — practice it after completing all eight Ashta Lakshmi themes, or whenever you feel fragmented. Sit in any comfortable position. Close your eyes. Visualize eight small flames arranged in a circle around your heart center — gold, green, red, white, orange, blue, yellow, violet — each representing one form of Lakshmi. Breathe naturally. Now, with each exhale, see two adjacent flames merge. Eight become four. Four become two. Two become one. A single, brilliant, white-gold flame at your heart center — larger than any individual flame was alone. This is Adilakshmi: the undivided source. Sit with this single flame for 7 minutes. Do not ask it for anything. Do not name what you need. Just be in the presence of the whole. When you open your eyes, carry the knowledge that you do not need eight blessings. You need one alignment.
Mantra Practice · मंत्र जप
Chant 108 times on the first Friday of any month — a fresh beginning aligned with Lakshmi's day. Alternatively, chant on Deepavali night before performing the specific Ashta Lakshmi puja, as an invocation to the undivided source before approaching the eight forms. Sit on a white cloth, facing east, with eight small oil lamps arranged in a circle and one larger lamp at the center. Light the center lamp first — this is Adilakshmi. Then light the eight from the center lamp's flame. Use a lotus-seed mala. Voice should be unhurried, warm, and whole — the tone of someone who has stopped rushing between desires and has finally sat down.

तुमने आठ देवियों से माँगा। थी बस एक — तुम्हारी सारी माँगों के पीछे बैठी, इंतज़ार में कि तुम उन्हें बाँटना कब बंद करोगे।
