Adya Stotram

ādyāṃ māyāṃ parabrahmasvarūpāṃ parameśvarīm| namāmi caraṇāmbhoje ādyāṃ kālīṃ sanātanīm||1||

मैं आद्या माया के चरण-कमलों में नमन करता हूँ, जिनका स्वरूप ही परब्रह्म है और जो सर्वोच्च ईश्वरी हैं। वे आद्या काली हैं — सनातन, अनादि और अनंत। उन आदिशक्ति को मेरा सादर प्रणाम है।

I bow at the lotus feet of Adya, the primordial Maya, whose very form is the Supreme Brahman, the highest of all rulers. She is Kali, the eternal one who existed before creation and will remain after all dissolution. To her — the first, the formless made form — I offer my humble salutation.

jaganmātaraṃ mahākālīṃ mahāvidyāṃ maheśvarīm| mahāmāyāṃ mahādevīṃ namāmi paradevatām||2||

मैं उन्हें प्रणाम करता हूँ जो जगत की माता हैं, महाकाली हैं, महाविद्या हैं और महेश्वरी हैं। वे महामाया, महादेवी और सर्वोच्च देवता हैं। देवी के सभी नाम और रूप अंततः उन्हीं की असीम सत्ता में समाहित हैं।

I bow to her who is the Mother of the universe, the great Kali, the great Wisdom, the great Ruler of all. She is Mahamaya, the great Goddess, the supreme deity beyond all others. All names and forms of the divine find their ultimate source in her boundless being.

kālīṃ karālavadanāṃ viśālāṃ bahubhujām| caturbhujāṃ trinayanāṃ namāmi bhavatāriṇīm||3||

मैं काली को प्रणाम करता हूँ जिनका मुख भयंकर और विशाल है, जिनके अनेक भुजाएँ उनकी अनंत शक्ति का प्रतीक हैं। वे चतुर्भुजा और त्रिनयना हैं — तीसरा नेत्र उनकी परम ज्ञान-दृष्टि है। मैं उन भवतारिणी को नमन करता हूँ जो हमें संसार-सागर से पार कराती हैं।

I bow to Kali, who has a fierce and awe-inspiring face, who is vast and all-pervading, who bears many arms symbolizing her infinite power. She has four arms and three eyes — the third being the eye of supreme wisdom. I bow to her who ferries us across the terrifying ocean of worldly existence.

śavārūḍhāṃ mahāraudrīṃ muṇḍamālāvibhūṣitām| khaḍgapāṇiṃ varadāṃ ca namāmi bhayanāśinīm||4||

मैं उन महारौद्री को प्रणाम करता हूँ जो शव पर आरूढ़ हैं, मुण्डमाला से विभूषित हैं और हाथ में खड्ग धारण किए हैं। फिर भी वे वरदायिनी हैं — भय का नाश करने वाली हैं। उनके चरणों तले पड़ा शव अहंकार का प्रतीक है और उनकी तलवार हर माया को काटती है।

I bow to the greatly fierce one who stands upon a corpse, adorned with a garland of severed heads, holding a sword in her hand. Yet in the same hand she offers boons, for she is the destroyer of all fear. The corpse beneath her feet is ego itself — and her sword cuts through every illusion that keeps us bound.

śmaśānavāsinīṃ devīṃ sarvasiddhipradāyinīm| kapālahastāṃ raktāsyāṃ namāmi kālikāṃ śivām||5||

मैं उन कालिका को प्रणाम करता हूँ जो श्मशान में निवास करती हैं और सभी सिद्धियाँ प्रदान करती हैं। उनके हाथ में कपाल है और उनका मुख रक्तरंजित है — अहंकार के विनाश का प्रतीक। श्मशान कोई भयस्थान नहीं, बल्कि वह पावन भूमि है जहाँ पुराना अहंकार मरता है और मुक्त आत्मा का जन्म होता है।

I bow to Kālika, the auspicious Goddess who dwells in the cremation ground and grants all accomplishments and spiritual powers. She holds a skull-cup in her hand and her mouth is red with the blood of ego-death. The cremation ground is not a place of terror but the sacred space where the old self dies and the liberated self is born.

karuṇāmayīṃ jagaddhātrīṃ sarvaduḥkhavināśinīm| sarvamaṃgaladāṃ devīṃ namāmi hṛdi saṃsthitām||6||

मैं उन देवी को प्रणाम करता हूँ जो करुणा से परिपूर्ण हैं, जगत की पालनकर्त्री हैं और समस्त दुःखों का नाश करती हैं। वे सभी मंगल और आशीर्वाद की दाता हैं और हृदय में निवास करती हैं। उनके भयंकर बाहरी रूप के पीछे एक असीम मातृप्रेम का सागर है जो हर टूटी आत्मा को बिना शर्त स्वीकार करता है।

I bow to the Goddess who is overflowing with compassion, who sustains the entire universe, and who destroys every form of suffering and sorrow. She bestows all auspiciousness and blessings, and she dwells eternally within the heart. Beyond her fearsome outer form lies an ocean of motherly love that accepts every broken soul without condition.

rāmakṛṣṇapriyāṃ devīṃ kālīghāṭanivāsinīm| ādyāṃ śaktiṃ parāṃ nityāṃ namāmi karuṇārṇavām||7||

मैं उन देवी को प्रणाम करता हूँ जो रामकृष्ण परमहंस की परम प्रिया हैं और कालीघाट में निवास करती हैं। वे आद्याशक्ति, परा और नित्या हैं — करुणा का अनंत सागर। महान् रहस्यवादी रामकृष्ण ने उन्हें पत्थर में नहीं, एक जीवित, हँसती-बोलती माँ के रूप में देखा और उनकी भक्ति हमें दिखाती है कि माँ को कितनी आत्मीयता से जाना जा सकता है।

I bow to the Goddess beloved of Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, who dwells at the sacred Kalighat temple in Kolkata. She is the primordial Shakti, the supreme and eternal power, and an ocean of boundless compassion. The great mystic Ramakrishna saw her not as stone but as living, breathing, laughing divine Mother — and his devotion shows us how intimately she can be known.

idaṃ stotraṃ paṭhedbhaktyā yaḥ kālyāḥ prītikāmyayā| sa labhet sarvasiddhiṃ ca muktiṃ ca paramāṃ śubhām||8||

जो कोई इस स्तोत्र का भक्तिपूर्वक और काली को प्रसन्न करने की सच्ची इच्छा से पाठ करता है, वह समस्त सिद्धियाँ और परम शुभ मुक्ति प्राप्त करता है। यह आद्याष्टकम् का फलश्रुति और वचन है — कि भक्तिपूर्ण पाठ स्वयं में एक पूर्ण मार्ग है। इन आठ श्लोकों का फल केवल सांसारिक सफलता नहीं, बल्कि वह परम स्वतंत्रता है जो माँ अपने हाथों से प्रदान करती हैं।

Whoever recites this hymn with devotion and with the sincere desire to please Kali shall attain all accomplishments and the supreme auspicious liberation. This is the seal and promise of the Adya Stotram — that devoted recitation is itself a complete path. The fruit of these eight verses is not merely worldly success but the ultimate freedom, offered with the Goddess's own gracious hand.
