Lingashtakam

brahma-murāri-surārcita-liṅgaṃ nirmala-bhāsita-śobhita-liṅgam| janmaja-duḥkha-vināśaka-liṅgaṃ tat praṇamāmi sadāśiva-liṅgam||1||

मैं उस शिवलिंग को प्रणाम करता हूँ जिसकी पूजा ब्रह्मा, विष्णु और समस्त देवता करते हैं, और जो निर्मल प्रकाश से सुशोभित है। यह शिवलिंग जन्म-जन्मांतर के दुखों को नष्ट करने वाला है। मैं उन सदाशिव लिंग को बारंबार नमन करता हूँ।

I bow to that Shiva Lingam which is worshipped by Brahma, Vishnu, and all the gods, and which shines with pure, radiant splendor. It is the destroyer of all suffering born from the endless cycle of birth and death. I offer my reverent prostration to that eternal Shiva Lingam.

deva-muni-pravarārcita-liṅgaṃ kāma-dahaṃ karuṇākara-liṅgam| rāvaṇa-darpa-vināśana-liṅgaṃ tat praṇamāmi sadāśiva-liṅgam||2||

मैं उस शिवलिंग को प्रणाम करता हूँ जिसकी पूजा देवताओं और श्रेष्ठ मुनियों ने की है, जिसने कामदेव को भस्म किया, और जो करुणा का सागर है। यह रावण के अहंकार को नष्ट करने वाला शिवलिंग है। मैं उन सदाशिवलिंग को नमन करता हूँ।

I bow to that Shiva Lingam which is worshipped by the foremost gods and sages, which burned the god of desire (Kamadeva), and which is yet a boundless ocean of compassion. It is the destroyer of the arrogance of Ravana, the mighty demon king. I offer my reverent prostration to that eternal Shiva Lingam.

sarva-sugandhi-sulepita-liṅgaṃ buddhi-vivarddhana-kāraṇa-liṅgam| siddha-surāsura-vandita-liṅgaṃ tat praṇamāmi sadāśiva-liṅgam||3||

मैं उस शिवलिंग को प्रणाम करता हूँ जो सभी सुगंधित द्रव्यों से लेपित है और जो बुद्धि को बढ़ाने का कारण है। इसे सिद्ध महात्मा, देवता और असुर — सभी वंदना करते हैं। मैं उन सदाशिवलिंग को नमन करता हूँ।

I bow to that Shiva Lingam which is anointed with all manner of fragrant substances and which is the source and enhancer of pure intellect and wisdom. It is worshipped and saluted by the Siddhas (perfected masters), the gods, and even the demons alike. I offer my reverent prostration to that eternal Shiva Lingam.

kanaka-mahā-maṇi-bhūṣita-liṅgaṃ phaṇi-pati-veṣṭita-śobhita-liṅgam| dakṣa-suyajña-vināśana-liṅgaṃ tat praṇamāmi sadāśiva-liṅgam||4||

मैं उस शिवलिंग को प्रणाम करता हूँ जो सोने और महामणियों से सुसज्जित है, और जो सर्पराज द्वारा वेष्टित होकर शोभायमान है। यह दक्ष के घमंडी यज्ञ को नष्ट करने वाला शिवलिंग है। मैं उन सदाशिवलिंग को नमन करता हूँ।

I bow to that Shiva Lingam which is adorned with gold and great precious gems, and which is beautifully encircled by Vasuki, the king of serpents. It is the destroyer of the grand but arrogant yajna of Daksha, who disrespected the supreme Lord. I offer my reverent prostration to that eternal Shiva Lingam.

kuṅkuma-candana-lepita-liṅgaṃ paṅkaja-hāra-suśobhita-liṅgam| sañcita-pāpa-vināśana-liṅgaṃ tat praṇamāmi sadāśiva-liṅgam||5||

मैं उस शिवलिंग को प्रणाम करता हूँ जो कुंकुम और चंदन से लेपित है और कमल के हारों से सुशोभित है। यह शिवलिंग जन्म-जन्मांतर के संचित पापों को नष्ट करने वाला है। मैं उन सदाशिवलिंग को नमन करता हूँ।

I bow to that Shiva Lingam which is anointed with saffron and sandalwood paste, and beautifully adorned with garlands of lotus flowers. It is the destroyer of all accumulated sins and negative karma built up over lifetimes. I offer my reverent prostration to that eternal Shiva Lingam.

deva-gaṇārcita-sevita-liṅgaṃ bhāvair bhaktibhir eva ca liṅgam| dina-kara-koṭi-prabhākara-liṅgaṃ tat praṇamāmi sadāśiva-liṅgam||6||

मैं उस शिवलिंग को प्रणाम करता हूँ जिसकी सेवा देवगण करते हैं और जो भावना और भक्ति से ही प्राप्त होता है। यह करोड़ों सूर्यों के समान प्रकाशमान शिवलिंग है। मैं उन सदाशिवलिंग को नमन करता हूँ।

I bow to that Shiva Lingam which is worshipped and served by hosts of gods, and which is truly accessible through heartfelt devotion and sincere emotion. It radiates a brilliance equal to ten million suns blazing together. I offer my reverent prostration to that eternal Shiva Lingam.

aṣṭa-dala-pari-veṣṭita-liṅgaṃ sarva-samudbhava-kāraṇa-liṅgam| aṣṭa-daridra-vināśana-liṅgaṃ tat praṇamāmi sadāśiva-liṅgam||7||

मैं उस शिवलिंग को प्रणाम करता हूँ जो आठ दलों (पंखुड़ियों) से घिरा है और जो समस्त सृष्टि की उत्पत्ति का कारण है। यह आठ प्रकार की दरिद्रता को नष्ट करने वाला शिवलिंग है। मैं उन सदाशिवलिंग को नमन करता हूँ।

I bow to that Shiva Lingam which is encircled by the eight petals of the lotus, representing the eight directions of the cosmos, and which is the ultimate cause of all that arises in creation. It is the destroyer of the eight forms of poverty and deprivation that afflict human beings. I offer my reverent prostration to that eternal Shiva Lingam.

sura-guru-sura-vara-pūjita-liṅgaṃ sura-vana-puṣpa-sadārcita-liṅgam| parāt-paraṃ paramātmaka-liṅgaṃ tat praṇamāmi sadāśiva-liṅgam||8||

मैं उस शिवलिंग को प्रणाम करता हूँ जिसे देवगुरु बृहस्पति और श्रेष्ठ देवता पूजते हैं, और जो स्वर्गीय उपवन के पुष्पों से सदा अर्चित रहता है। यह परात्पर परमात्मस्वरूप शिवलिंग है। मैं उन सदाशिवलिंग को नमन करता हूँ।

I bow to that Shiva Lingam which is worshipped by Brihaspati (the preceptor of the gods) and the most exalted among all divine beings, and which is perpetually offered the flowers of the celestial gardens. It is that which is beyond the beyond, the very nature of the Supreme Self (Paramātman). I offer my reverent prostration to that eternal Shiva Lingam.

liṅgāṣṭakam idaṃ puṇyaṃ yaḥ paṭhec chiva-sannidhau| śiva-lokam avāpnoti śivena saha modate||9||

जो कोई इस पुण्यमय लिंगाष्टकम् का शिव के सान्निध्य में पाठ करता है, वह शिवलोक को प्राप्त करता है और शिव के साथ आनंद को प्राप्त होता है। यह संपूर्ण स्तोत्र का फलश्रुति श्लोक है।

Whoever recites this sacred and meritorious Lingashtakam in the presence of Shiva attains the realm of Shiva (Shivaloka). They rejoice and delight in eternal communion with Shiva himself. This is the fruit and fulfillment of this entire hymn.
