Oshadhi Suktam -- a Vedic hymn to the healing herbs and medicinal plants (oshadhi), praising nature's power to cure. Chanted for health, healing, and gratitude to the plant world.
ओषधि सूक्तम् -- रोग-नाशक औषधियों और वनस्पतियों (ओषधि) को समर्पित वैदिक सूक्त, जो प्रकृति की उपचार-शक्ति की स्तुति करता है। आरोग्य, उपचार और वनस्पति-जगत के प्रति कृतज्ञता के लिए।
या ओषधीः पूर्वा जाता देवेभ्यस्त्रियुगं पुरा। मनै नु बभ्रूणामहं शतं धामानि सप्त च॥१॥
yā oṣadhīḥ pūrvā jātā devebhyastriyugaṃ purā | manai nu babhrūṇāmahaṃ śataṃ dhāmāni sapta ca ||1||
औषधियाँ प्राचीन काल में देवों के लिए जन्मी थीं। मैं उनके अनेक रूपों, धामों और शक्तियों का आह्वान करता हूँ।
The healing herbs were born in ancient times, before many ages, for the devas. I invoke their many forms, abodes and powers.
ओषधयः संवदन्ते सोमेन सह राज्ञा। यस्मै कृणोति ब्राह्मणस्तं राजन्पारयामसि॥२॥
oṣadhayaḥ saṃvadante somena saha rājñā | yasmai kṛṇoti brāhmaṇastaṃ rājanpārayāmasi ||2||
औषधियाँ राजा सोम के साथ संवाद करती हैं। जिसके लिए ब्राह्मण उपचार-विधि करता है, हे राजन्, हम उसे रोग से पार कराएँ।
The herbs converse with King Soma. For the one for whom the priest prepares the healing rite, O King, may we carry that person across illness.
अश्वत्थे वो निषदनं पर्णे वो वसतिष्कृता। गोभाज इत्किलासथ यत्सनवथ पूरुषम्॥३॥
aśvatthe vo niṣadanaṃ parṇe vo vasatiṣkṛtā | gobhāja itkilāsatha yatsanavatha pūruṣam ||3||
तुम्हारा निवास पवित्र वृक्ष में है, तुम्हारा घर पत्तों में है। जब तुम मनुष्य को बल देती हो, तब पोषण से भरपूर होती हो।
Your dwelling is in the sacred tree, your home in the leaves. You are rich in nourishment when you strengthen the human being.
यत्रौषधीः समग्मत राजानः समिताविव। विप्रः स उच्यते भिषग् रक्षोहामीवचातनः॥४॥
yatrauṣadhīḥ samagmata rājānaḥ samitāviva | vipraḥ sa ucyate bhiṣag rakṣohāmīvacātanaḥ ||4||
जब औषधियाँ सभा में राजाओं की तरह एकत्र होती हैं, तब ज्ञानी वैद्य रोग और हानिकारक शक्तियों का नाश करने वाला कहा जाता है।
When herbs came together like kings in assembly, the wise healer is called a physician, remover of harmful forces and disease.
मुञ्चन्तु मा शपथ्यादथो वरुण्यादुत। अथो यमस्य पड्बीशात्सर्वस्माद्देवकिल्बिषात्॥५॥
muñcantu mā śapathyādatho varuṇyāduta | atho yamasya paḍbīśātsarvasmāddevakilbiṣāt ||5||
औषधियाँ मुझे शाप के प्रभाव से मुक्त करें, वरुण के बंधन से भी। यम के पाश से, और देवताओं के प्रति हुए हर अपराध से भी मुक्त करें।
May the herbs release me from the effect of a curse, and from Varuna's bond. May they also release me from Yama's fetter, from every offense against the gods.
मा वो रिषत्खनिता यस्मै चाहं खनामि वः। द्विपच्चतुष्पदस्माकं सर्वमस्त्वनातुरम्॥६॥
mā vo riṣatkhanitā yasmai cāhaṃ khanāmi vaḥ | dvipaccatuṣpadasmākaṃ sarvamastvanāturam ||6||
औषधि उस खोदने वाले को हानि न पहुँचाए, न ही उसे जिसके लिए मैं इसे खोदता हूँ। हमारे सभी द्विपद और चतुष्पद प्राणी रोगमुक्त रहें।
May the herb not harm the one who digs it up, nor the one for whom I dig it. May all our two-footed and four-footed beings be free from disease.
