श्रेयसी

The Supreme Good; the goddess who is the highest welfare - not what is immediately pleasant (preyas) but what is ultimately beneficial (śreyas) for the soul's growth and liberation

परम कल्याण - जो सर्वोच्च हित हैं, न कि जो तत्काल सुखद हो (प्रेयस) बल्कि जो आत्मा की वृद्धि और मुक्ति के लिए अन्ततः लाभकारी हो (श्रेयस)

कठ उपनिषद का केन्द्रीय नाटक युवा नचिकेता का प्रेयस के बजाय श्रेयस चुनना है - यम द्वारा प्रस्तावित सभी सुखों को अस्वीकार करना, केवल मृत्यु के परे के ज्ञान पर ज़ोर देना। जो भी भारतीय इसी तरह का साहसी चुनाव करे - लाभदायक के बजाय अर्थपूर्ण करियर, उन्नति के बजाय अखण्डता - उसने श्रेयसी का आह्वान किया है।

ॐChant when facing the classic Upanishadic choice between preyas (the pleasant) and śreyas (the good). Śreyasī is invoked when one must choose the harder path that leads to greater truth over the easier path that leads to comfort. Especially meaningful in the Katha Upanishad tradition.
