इच्छा और त्याग के बीच तनाव सभी भारतीय आध्यात्मिक प्रवचन में चलता है। सर्वकामदा इसे एक विशिष्ट शाक्त तरीके से हल करती हैं: इच्छा को अस्वीकार करने की बजाय उसे देवी के हाथों में रखकर। इच्छा का दैवीय को अर्पण - 'मैं यह चाहता हूँ, लेकिन मुझे भरोसा है कि आप मुझे जो चाहिए वह देंगी' - प्रार्थना के सबसे परिपक्व रूपों में से एक है।
