रक्षाबन्धन परम्परा - जहाँ बहनें भाइयों की कलाइयों पर धागा बाँधती हैं - भारत के सबसे शक्तिशाली इस पुष्टि में से एक है कि दैवीय सम्बन्ध क्षैतिज, समकक्ष-से-समकक्ष हो सकता है। जब महिलाएँ मन्दिरों में राखी बाँधती हैं, देवता को भाई-बहन के रूप में आह्वान करती हैं, वे भगिनी की सत्य व्यक्त करती हैं।
