त्रिशूल के धारक, त्रिशूल के वाहक जिनकी तीन नोकें अज्ञान के तीन स्तरों और कष्ट के तीन रूपों को भेदती हैं

शूलभृत् (त्रिशूल के धारक) शिव को उनके सबसे प्रतीकात्मक शस्त्र के माध्यम से आह्वान करता है। त्रिशूल की तीन नोकें कई तरीकों से व्याख्यायित की जाती हैं: तीन गुण, तीन लोक, तीन प्रकार के कष्ट (आध्यात्मिक, आधिभौतिक, आधिदैविक) और चेतना की तीन अवस्थाएँ। भारत और नेपाल के हर शिव मंदिर से त्रिशूल ध्वज लहराता है। शिव के हाथ में त्रिशूल आक्रामकता का शस्त्र नहीं बल्कि मुक्ति का साधन है।
