त्रिपुरारि (त्रिपुर का शत्रु) शैव परंपरा में सबसे प्रसिद्ध पौराणिक प्रसंगों में से एक को जागृत करता है। आध्यात्मिक रूपक सटीक है: तीन किले तीन शरीरों, तीन गुणों, चेतना की तीन अवस्थाओं और तीन प्रकार के कष्टों का प्रतिनिधित्व करते हैं। शिव त्रिपुरारि के रूप में उन सभी को पहचान के क्षण में एक साथ नष्ट करते हैं। हर शैव मंदिर का त्रिशूल इसकी याद दिलाता है।
