Mandukya Karika में Gaudapada ने अलातचक्र का उदाहरण दिया — जलती हुई लकड़ी को घुमाओ तो circle दिखता है जो actually exist नहीं करता — यही माया है। Ferris wheel, spinning top, chakri (पतंग की चकरी) — बच्चे अनजाने में अलातचक्र खेलते हैं। Stock market का boom-bust cycle, seasons का आना-जाना, सांसारिक सुख-दुख का चक्र — सब अलातचक्र है। शिव इस चक्र के बाहर हैं — वो observer हैं, participant नहीं।
