बुद्ध का पहला आर्य सत्य दुःख है। अय्यप्पा दुःखनाशन के रूप में उसी सार्वभौमिक समस्या का शैव-वैष्णव परम्परा का उत्तर देता है। विघटन तत्काल नहीं बल्कि संचयी है।
