विद्या-अविद्या युग्मता सहस्रनाम का सबसे कट्टरपन्थी धर्मशास्त्रीय कथन है: देवी ज्ञान और अज्ञान दोनों हैं। वह आवरण बनाती हैं (अविद्या/महामाया) और इसे हटाती हैं (विद्या/मुक्ति)। वही दैवीय शक्ति समस्या और समाधान दोनों का स्रोत है।

The Vidyā-Avidyā pair (527-528) is the sahasranama's most paradoxical back-to-back names: knowledge followed immediately by its opposite. Both are the goddess. Avidyā is not the enemy but the medium through which the game of knowing and not-knowing is played.
