The lord of mountains whose throne is the Himalaya , the consciousness that ancient stone becomes when it waits long enough.

Etymology · व्युत्पत्ति
From Sanskrit 'giri' (mountain, from the root 'gṛ' meaning to swallow or to be massive) + 'īśa' (lord, sovereign) , Girīśa is the lord of mountains, the one whose throne is not built from stone but IS stone, who chose peaks over heavens because altitude, not power, was his natural habitat.
अर्थ
पहाड़ बस ऊँची ज़मीन नहीं है। यह समय है जो दिखाई देता है , अरबों वर्षों का दबाव और ताप जो किसी ऐसी चीज़ में सिकुड़ा है जिस पर खड़े हो सकते हो। गिरीश उस समय के भीतर चेतना हैं। केदारनाथ की चढ़ाई पर जब जाँघें जल रही हों, साँस पतली हो रही हो, और फिर भी पाँव आगे बढ़ते हों , वो ताकत कहाँ से आती है? वो गिरीश देते हैं। हिमालय उनका पता नहीं , उनका शरीर है। जो पत्थर तुम्हारे जूते के नीचे हैं वो उनकी त्वचा है। जो हिमनदी टूटती है वो उनकी आवाज़ है। पहाड़ सिर्फ ऊपर की ओर नहीं जाते , वे जड़ों तक भी उतने ही गहरे हैं। यही गिरीश की शिक्षा है।
कथा · From tradition
शिव पुराण की रुद्र संहिता में लिखा है , पर्वतराज हिमवान और उनकी पत्नी मेना ने गहरी तपस्या की ताकि शिव उनके दामाद बनें। वे जानते थे कि केवल वो प्राणी जो खुद पहाड़ हो , पुराना, अडिग, मौसम से उदासीन , उनकी पुत्री पार्वती का योग्य साथी हो सकता है। जब ऋषियों ने हिमवान को यह समझाया, पर्वतराज ने शिव में अपनी ही गहरी प्रकृति , चेतन रूप में , पहचानी और पूर्ण श्रद्धा से अपना महल, पुत्री और शिखर अर्पित किए। हिमवान ने कहा: 'जो पहले से पहाड़ों के स्वामी हैं उन्हें ये उपहार में नहीं दिए जा सकते। जो पहले से उनका है वही अर्पित कर रहा हूँ।' कैलाश , शिव पुराण के अनुसार , उनका घर नहीं, वो स्थान है जहाँ शिव की पर्वत-प्रकृति सबसे पूर्णतः प्रकट होती है।

बेंगलुरु के IT पार्क में बैठे हो, काँच और स्टील के बीच। खिड़की से एक पेड़ दिखता है जो पार्किंग लॉट की दरार से उग आया है। दिल्ली में स्मॉग में डूबे आसमान को देखकर हिमालय की तस्वीर याद आती है और आँखें भर आती हैं। हर साल चार धाम की योजना बनती है, छुट्टी नहीं मिलती। गिरीश कहते हैं , पहाड़ तुम्हारे अंदर भी है। जब किसी बड़े फैसले के सामने घबराहट में पाँव ज़मीन पर मज़बूती से टिका लेते हो, जब परेशानी में रीढ़ सीधी करते हो , वो गिरीश का स्पर्श है। उन्हें केदारनाथ जाकर मिलना ज़रूरी नहीं। वो वहाँ भी हैं, उस दरार से उगे पेड़ में भी।
Meditation · ध्यान
Stand barefoot on the ground , grass, soil, a balcony floor, even bare tiles. Feel gravity pulling your weight downward. Close your eyes. Inhale through the nose and on the exhale, consciously press your feet into the earth. Imagine roots descending from your soles , through concrete, through pipes, through clay, into bedrock. Let the rock hold you. You are not standing on the mountain. For 3 minutes, be the mountain , heavy, rooted, unbothered by wind.
Mantra Practice · मंत्र जप
Chant 54 times outdoors at sunrise, facing north toward the Himalayas. Sit directly on the ground. Use a rudraksha mala. Voice should be deep and resonant, drawn from the chest rather than the throat , like a sound that has traveled through miles of rock before emerging. Most powerful on the banks of any river or at the base of any hill.

“आखिरी बार कब ऐसा लगा कि पाँव ज़मीन में हैं , न कुछ हासिल करना, न योजना बनाना , बस किसी पेड़ की तरह जड़ें ज़मीन में? आज वो महसूस करने के लिए क्या चाहिए होगा?”
उन्होंने पहाड़ को घर नहीं चुना। पहाड़ ने अरबों साल के धैर्य के बाद इतनी चेतना पाई कि उनके योग्य हुआ।
