Panchamahabhuta -- The Five Great Elements
tasmādvā etasmādātmana ākāśaḥ sambhūtaḥ | ākāśādvāyuḥ | vāyoragniḥ | agnerāpaḥ | adbhyaḥ pṛthivī |
— Taittiriya Upanishad 2.1
| Element | Subtle quality (tanmatra) | Sense | Qualities it carries |
|---|---|---|---|
| Akasha (space) | Shabda (sound) | Hearing | Sound |
| Vayu (air) | Sparsha (touch) | Touch | Sound, touch |
| Agni / Tejas (fire) | Rupa (form, colour) | Sight | Sound, touch, form |
| Jala (water) | Rasa (taste) | Taste | Sound, touch, form, taste |
| Prithvi (earth) | Gandha (smell) | Smell | Sound, touch, form, taste, smell |
bhūmirāpo'nalo vāyuḥ khaṃ mano buddhireva ca | ahaṃkāra itīyaṃ me bhinnā prakṛtiraṣṭadhā ||
— Bhagavad Gita 7.4

Fire, Water, and Ash -- The Three Substances of Hindu Ritual
Every Hindu ritual you have ever attended uses three substances: fire to transform, water to cleanse, ash to remind you of impermanence. Together they trace a complete arc -- creation, sustenance, dissolution -- in ingredients you can hold in your hand.

Sankhya -- The Oldest Philosophy of Creation
Before the Bhagavad Gita. Before Patanjali. Before Shankaracharya. There was Sankhya -- a philosophy that explained everything from cosmic creation to human suffering without invoking God. Founded by Kapila, compressed into 72 devastating verses by Ishvarakrishna, and quietly embedded in every other Indian philosophical system that came after it.

Ayurveda -- The 3,000-Year-Old Science That Knows Your Body Type Before You Do
Long before personalised medicine became a Silicon Valley buzzword, the Charaka Samhita classified every human being into one of seven constitutional types based on three biological forces -- Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Modern genomic studies at CSIR-IGIB have found that these ancient types correlate with distinct gene expression profiles. Ayurveda did not guess. It observed.

Purusha and Prakriti -- The Witness and the Dance
A lame man climbs onto the shoulders of a blind man. Together they navigate a forest neither could cross alone. This 1,700-year-old image from the Sankhya Karika is the most elegant description of consciousness and matter ever composed -- and it explains why you suffer, why you act, and how you can stop confusing yourself with your thoughts.

Sattva, Rajas, Tamas -- The Three Gunas That Run Your Life
Every mood you have ever felt, every decision you have ever made, every Netflix binge and every 4 AM study session -- Hindu philosophy says it all comes down to three forces. Sattva illuminates, Rajas agitates, Tamas numbs. The Bhagavad Gita's Chapter 14 is essentially a 2,000-year-old personality framework that modern psychology is only now catching up to.

Agni -- The Fire God
The very first verse of the Rig Veda opens with a single word: Agni. The fire god is the divine priest of every Vedic ritual, the messenger who carries offerings to the devas, the witness at every Hindu wedding. He has seven tongues of flame, three heads, two faces, and lives in every hearth where food is cooked. This is the deity without whom no Hindu ritual is complete.
