Hari Ashtakam

॥1॥ hare hare mahāhare hare hareti sarvadā| japanti ye mahātmānaste yānti paramāṃ gatim||

जो महान आत्माएं सदा 'हरे हरे, महाहरे' का जप करती हैं, वे निश्चित रूप से परम गति को प्राप्त होती हैं। हरि का नाम भवसागर को पार करने की नाव के समान है। उनके नाम के उच्चारण मात्र से बड़े से बड़े पाप भी नष्ट हो जाते हैं।

Those great souls who always chant 'Hare Hare, the great Hari' at all times surely attain the supreme destination. The name of Hari, repeated with devotion, becomes the raft that carries one across the ocean of worldly existence. Such is the boundless power of His name that even its utterance dissolves the heaviest of sins.

॥2॥ harirharati pāpāni duṣṭacittairapi smṛtaḥ| anicchaāyāpi saṃspṛṣṭo dahatyeva hi pāvakaḥ||

जिस प्रकार अग्नि बिना किसी इच्छा के छूने वाले को भी जला देती है, उसी प्रकार हरि का स्मरण दुष्ट चित्त वालों के पापों को भी हर लेता है। हरि की कृपा किसी की योग्यता या पवित्रता पर निर्भर नहीं करती। उनके नाम का अनजाने में भी उच्चारण एक शुद्धिकारक शक्ति बन जाता है।

Hari removes the sins of even those with wicked minds who merely remember Him, just as fire burns whatever it touches regardless of the intention of the one who contacts it. The grace of Hari operates by its own divine law, independent of the worthiness or purity of the seeker. Even an accidental or reluctant remembrance of His name becomes a purifying force.

॥3॥ hariḥ sṛṣṭikaro viṣṇurharīḥ pālanakārakaḥ| hariḥ saṃhārakartā ca hariḥ sarvatra gīyate||

हरि विष्णु के रूप में इस समस्त सृष्टि के रचयिता हैं, सभी जीवों के पालनकर्ता और रक्षक हैं, और समय के अंत में सबको अपने में समेट लेने वाले संहारकर्ता भी हैं। यह एक ही परमसत्ता अपने भीतर सृष्टि, पालन और संहार तीनों कार्यों को धारण करती है। इसीलिए हरि की महिमा सर्वत्र, हर परंपरा और हर युग में गाई जाती है।

Hari as Vishnu is the creator of all existence, the sustainer who holds all life in protective embrace, and also the great dissolver who draws everything back into Himself at the end of time. This one Supreme Being encompasses all three cosmic functions within His infinite nature. Thus Hari is glorified and sung everywhere, in every tradition and in every age.

॥4॥ harināārāyaṇo devaḥ śrīmān śaṅkhagadādharaḥ| padmanābhaḥ suraśreṣṭho bhaktānāmabhayapradaḥ||

हरि ही नारायण हैं, दिव्य प्रभु जो शंख और गदा धारण करते हैं, जिनकी नाभि से कमल और समस्त सृष्टि प्रकट होती है और जो देवताओं में सर्वश्रेष्ठ हैं। सबसे महत्वपूर्ण बात यह है कि वे अपने भक्तों को अभय प्रदान करने वाले हैं। उनके स्वरूप में ही यह आश्वासन निहित है कि जो उनकी शरण में आता है, वह कभी भयभीत नहीं होता।

Hari is Narayana the divine Lord, resplendent with glory and bearing the sacred conch and mace, from whose lotus navel all creation emerges, the foremost among all divine beings. Most significantly, He is the bestower of fearlessness to all His devoted ones. In His very form is encoded the promise that those who take refuge in Him shall never walk in fear.

॥5॥ hariṃ vinā na jānāmi kañcidanyaṃ parātparam| hariḥ paramakalyāṇo hariḥ paramapāvanaḥ||

भक्त अटल विश्वास के साथ घोषणा करता है: 'मैं हरि के सिवा किसी अन्य को परात्पर नहीं जानता।' हरि ही परम कल्याणकारी हैं, अस्तित्व में जो कुछ भी शुभ और सुंदर है उसके स्रोत हैं। हरि ही परम पवित्रकारी शक्ति हैं, जिनके सामने भीतर और बाहर की सभी अशुद्धियाँ तत्काल विलीन हो जाती हैं।

The devotee declares with unwavering conviction: 'I know no other as the supreme beyond all supremes — only Hari.' Hari alone is the ultimately auspicious one, the source of all that is good and beautiful in existence. Hari alone is the supremely purifying power, before whom all impurities, both inner and outer, dissolve instantly.

॥6॥ harirdātā harirboktā harirannāṃ prajāpatiḥ| hariḥ sarvaśarīrastho harireva jagatpatiḥ||

हरि ही समस्त पोषण के दाता हैं और वही सभी अनुभवों के भोक्ता भी हैं, वही अन्न हैं और वही समस्त प्राणियों के प्रजापति हैं। वे प्रत्येक शरीर और प्रत्येक प्राणी के भीतर अंतर्यामी साक्षी और जीवन-शक्ति के रूप में निवास करते हैं। वास्तव में हरि ही इस समस्त ब्रह्मांड के एकमात्र स्वामी और अधिपति हैं।

Hari is at once the giver of all nourishment and the one who enjoys all experience, the food itself and the Lord of all creatures. He dwells within every body and every being as the indwelling witness and life-force. Hari alone is truly the master and lord of this entire universe — all roles, all relationships, all exchanges ultimately trace back to Him.

॥7॥ hariḥ pāpaharo nityaṃ harirmokṣapradāyakaḥ| harirbbhavabhayatrātā hariḥ śāntipradāyakaḥ||

हरि सदा-सर्वदा पापों के नाशक हैं, मोक्ष प्रदान करने वाले हैं और भव के भय से त्राण दिलाने वाले रक्षक हैं। वे उस गहरी शांति को प्रदान करते हैं जिसे अशांत मानव हृदय सदा खोजता है परंतु संसार के सुखों में नहीं पा सकता। हरि में मनुष्य के हर प्रकार के दुख — नैतिक, अस्तित्वगत और मानसिक — का अंतिम समाधान मिलता है।

Hari is eternally the destroyer of all sins, the bestower of final liberation, the savior from the fear and suffering of worldly existence. He grants the deep peace that the restless human heart has always sought but cannot find in the world's pleasures. In Hari, every form of human suffering — moral, existential, psychological — finds its ultimate resolution.

॥8॥ haryaṣṭakamidaṃ puṇyaṃ yaḥ paṭhet prayataḥ śuciḥ| sarvapāpavinirmukto viṣṇulokaṃ sa gacchati|| ||iti haryaṣṭakaṃ sampūrṇam||

जो कोई इस पवित्र और पुण्यदायक हरि अष्टकम का शरीर और मन की शुद्धि के साथ अनुशासनपूर्वक पाठ करता है, वह समस्त पापों से पूर्णतः मुक्त होकर विष्णुलोक को प्राप्त होता है। यह फलश्रुति — फल की घोषणा — इस स्तोत्र को एक आश्वासन के साथ पूर्ण करती है। जो भक्त इस अष्टकम को अपने दैनिक जीवन का अंग बनाता है, वह निश्चित रूप से हरि के शाश्वत धाम वैकुंठ की ओर अग्रसर होता है।

Whoever recites this sacred and meritorious Hari Ashtakam with discipline and purity of body and mind shall be completely freed from all sins and shall attain the divine realm of Vishnu. This phalaśruti — the declaration of fruits — seals the hymn with a promise: sincere practice of this eightfold praise is itself a complete spiritual discipline. The devotee who makes this ashtakam a part of their daily life moves steadily and surely toward Vaikuntha, the eternal abode of Hari.
