Ranganath Ashtakam

kāverītīravāsāya kanakāṅgadadhāriṇe | śeṣaparyaṅkaśayine raṅganāthāya maṅgalam ||1||

भगवान रङ्गनाथ को मङ्गल हो — जो पवित्र कावेरी नदी के तट पर निवास करते हैं, जो सुवर्ण बाजूबन्द धारण करते हैं, और जो आदिशेष की शय्या पर योगनिद्रा में विराजमान हैं। उनके दिव्य स्वरूप से समस्त जगत को कल्याण प्राप्त हो।

Auspiciousness to Ranganatha — He who dwells on the sacred banks of the Kaveri river, who adorns His divine form with golden armlets, and who reclines in transcendent repose upon the couch of Adi Shesha. May all that is auspicious flow from His presence to all beings who seek His grace.

lakṣmīsametasukhadadāya lasatkīrīṭadhāriṇe | caturbhujāya śāntāya raṅganāthāya maṅgalam ||2||

भगवान रङ्गनाथ को मङ्गल हो — जो माता लक्ष्मी के साथ सुख प्रदान करते हैं, जो देदीप्यमान मुकुट धारण करते हैं, जो चतुर्भुज हैं और जिनका स्वभाव परम शान्त है। वे समस्त समृद्धि के स्रोत और करुणा की मूर्ति हैं।

Auspiciousness to Ranganatha — who bestows happiness accompanied by Goddess Lakshmi, who wears a radiant and gleaming crown upon His divine head, who is four-armed in His cosmic form, and whose very nature is the deepest peace. He is the source of all prosperity and the embodiment of serene grace.

yoganidrāpriyāya ca yogihṛtpadmavāsine | bhaktakāmadrumāya ca raṅganāthāya maṅgalam ||3||

भगवान रङ्गनाथ को मङ्गल हो — जो योगनिद्रा को प्रिय मानते हैं और जो योगियों के हृदय-कमल में निवास करते हैं। वे अपने भक्तों के लिए कल्पवृक्ष के समान हैं, जो उनकी मनोकामनाएँ पूर्ण करते हैं।

Auspiciousness to Ranganatha — He who takes delight in the divine Yoga Nidra, the sacred cosmic slumber that underlies all creation, and who dwells in the lotus of the yogi's heart as the innermost witness. He is the wish-fulfilling tree for His devotees, granting the deepest desires of those who surrender to Him in love.

anantabhoगaśayine hyanantaguṇaśāline | anantavibhavāya ca raṅganāthāya maṅgalam ||4||

भगवान रङ्गनाथ को मङ्गल हो — जो अनन्त शेषनाग के कुण्डलों पर शयन करते हैं, जो असंख्य दिव्य गुणों से सम्पन्न हैं, और जिनकी महिमा तथा ऐश्वर्य का कोई अन्त नहीं है। वे समस्त कल्याण के अक्षय स्रोत हैं।

Auspiciousness to Ranganatha — He who reclines upon the infinite coils of Ananta Shesha, the endless serpent of time and creation, who is endowed with infinite divine qualities beyond measure, and whose glory and divine power have no boundary or limit. He is the inexhaustible ocean of all that is good, beautiful, and true.

meghaśyāmalakāyāya meghanādapriyāya ca | śrīmate kamalākānta raṅganāthāya maṅgalam ||5||

भगवान रङ्गनाथ को मङ्गल हो — जिनका दिव्य शरीर वर्षा के मेघ की तरह श्यामल और सुन्दर है, जो मेघ की गर्जना से प्रसन्न होते हैं, और जो कमला (लक्ष्मी) के प्रिय स्वामी हैं। वे समस्त सौन्दर्य और दिव्य वैभव के स्वामी हैं।

Auspiciousness to Ranganatha — whose divine body is the colour of a dark monsoon cloud, deep and beautiful as the sky before the rains, who delights in the deep resonant sound of thunder and cosmic vibration, and who is the glorious beloved of Kamala, the Goddess who sits upon the lotus. He is the Lord of all beauty and divine splendour.

surāsurārcitapadāya śubhāṅgadivyarūpiṇe | prapannajanapalāya raṅganāthāya maṅgalam ||6||

भगवान रङ्गनाथ को मङ्गल हो — जिनके चरणों में देवता और असुर दोनों ही श्रद्धापूर्वक नमन करते हैं, जिनका दिव्य रूप सर्वाङ्ग शुभ और अलौकिक है, और जो अपने शरण में आए भक्तों के परम रक्षक हैं। वे सच्चे मन से आने वाले किसी को भी अपनी कृपा से वंचित नहीं करते।

Auspiciousness to Ranganatha — at whose sacred feet both gods and demons alike bow in worship, whose divine form is auspicious in every limb and radiant beyond description, and who is the supreme protector and guardian of all those who have taken refuge in Him through the path of surrender. He withholds His grace from none who approach Him in sincerity.

śrīraṅgamandirastrāya śrīmadrāmapriyāya ca | devakīnandanāya ca raṅganāthāya maṅgalam ||7||

भगवान रङ्गनाथ को मङ्गल हो — जो श्रीरङ्गम के दिव्य मन्दिर में सदा विराजमान हैं, जो श्रीराम को प्रिय हैं, और जो देवकी के नन्दन (श्रीकृष्ण) के रूप में भी जाने जाते हैं। उनमें समस्त अवतारों की दिव्य शक्ति एकत्रित है।

Auspiciousness to Ranganatha — who eternally abides in the glorious temple of Srirangam, the most sacred of all Vishnu's earthly abodes, who is beloved of the divine Rama and in whom the spirit of Rama finds eternal rest, and who is the beloved son of Devaki, embodying the fullness of Krishna's grace. In Him all the divine avatars converge as one.

itthaṃ raṅgeśapūjārthaṃ maṅgalāṣṭakamuttamam | yaḥ paṭhecchṛṇuyādvāpi sa yāti paramaṃ padam ||8||

इस प्रकार भगवान रङ्गनाथ की पूजा के लिए रचित यह उत्तम मङ्गलाष्टक सम्पूर्ण होता है। जो कोई भी इन आठ पवित्र श्लोकों का पाठ करता है अथवा श्रद्धापूर्वक सुनता है, वह परम पद को प्राप्त करता है — अर्थात् भगवान के साथ शाश्वत मिलन और मोक्ष की प्राप्ति होती है।

Thus concludes this supreme and auspicious Ashtakam composed for the worship of Ranganatha, the Lord of Sriranga. Whoever recites these eight sacred verses, or even simply hears them with a receptive heart, will surely attain the supreme state — the highest goal of human existence, liberation and eternal union with the Lord Himself.
