कर्पूरगौरम्
A beloved shloka describing Shiva as radiant as camphor — pure, compassionate, and eternally present in the lotus of the heart alongside Parvati (Bhavani). Sung at the close of Shiva pujas and aartis across India.
यह प्रिय श्लोक भगवान शिव को कर्पूर के समान धवल, करुणामय और भवानी सहित हृदय-कमल में सदा विराजमान बताता है। भारत भर में शिव पूजा और आरती के अंत में इसका गायन होता है।
कर्पूरगौरं करुणावतारं संसारसारं भुजगेन्द्रहारम् । सदावसन्तं हृदयारविन्दे भवं भवानीसहितं नमामि ॥
karpūra-gauraṃ karuṇāvatāraṃ saṃsāra-sāraṃ bhujagendra-hāram | sadāvasantaṃ hṛdayāravinde bhavaṃ bhavānī-sahitaṃ namāmi ||
मैं उन शिव को प्रणाम करता हूँ जो कर्पूर के समान धवल और शुद्ध हैं, जो करुणा के साक्षात् अवतार हैं, जो इस संसार के मूल सार हैं, जो सर्पराज को हार की तरह धारण करते हैं — और जो भवानी के साथ हृदय-कमल में सदा विराजमान हैं।
I bow to Shiva who is as radiant and pure as camphor, who is the very embodiment of compassion, who is the essence and foundation of all existence, who wears the king of serpents as his garland — and who dwells eternally in the lotus of the heart, together with Bhavani.
