माण्डूक्य उपनिषद् चेतना की चार अवस्थाओं की पहचान करती है। स्वप्ननाशक प्रभु को स्वप्न-अवस्था के वास्तविकता-दावे के नाशक के रूप में नाम देता है। यात्रा की अभ्यस्त मान्यताओं को तोड़ने की शक्ति व्यवहार में स्वप्ननाशक का कार्य है।
