मध्यकालीन भारत को बदलने वाला भक्ति आन्दोलन, अपने मूल में, यह खोज थी कि भक्तिसुलभा दिव्य की एक वास्तविक गुणवत्ता है। कबीर, एक जुलाहा जिसके पास कोई औपचारिक ब्राह्मण शिक्षा नहीं थी, सीधे देवी तक पहुँच सका। मीराबाई, एक महिला जिनकी भक्ति को उनके राजपरिवार ने अनुचित माना, पहुँच सकी। भक्ति के माध्यम से सुलभ देवी ने दिव्य को लोकतान्त्रिक बनाया।
