The eternally adorned — the name that reveals Vishnu is not a god who receives love passively but one who wears it actively, adorned at every moment by the unbroken chain of hands that iron shirts, string garlands, pick flowers by touch in the dark, and express love through acts so quiet they are indistinguishable from breathing.

Etymology · व्युत्पत्ति
From Sanskrit 'nitya' (नित्य, eternal, always, permanent) + 'śṛṅgāra' (श्रृंगार, adornment, beautification, the act of dressing up — also the first and most important of the nine rasas in Indian aesthetics: the rasa of love, romance, the erotic-sacred) + 'ī' (ई, possessor) — He who is eternally adorned, who is always dressed in love. Not a god who is sometimes in shringara and sometimes not. A god for whom shringara is permanent — who exists in the state of being loved and loving, dressed and dressing, adorning and adorned, at every moment without interruption.
अर्थ
दक्षिण भारत के हर विष्णु मंदिर में सुबह का पहला अनुष्ठान प्रार्थना नहीं। श्रृंगार। पुजारी मूर्ति स्नान, सुखा, चंदन, ताज़े फूल, रेशम, गहने, मुकुट, माला — तब दरवाज़े दर्शन के लिए। ईश्वर दिखने से पहले सजाया। ज़रूरत नहीं। श्रृंगार प्रेम है। हर पंखुड़ी संस्कृत से पुरानी प्रेम भाषा का वाक्य। रेशम का हर तह अंतरंगता जो public न देखे। श्रृंगार मंदिर का सबसे निजी कर्म — बंद दरवाज़ों पीछे, पीढ़ियों से अधिकार वाले पुजारी, ऐसी कोमलता जो देखे तो शर्मिंदा हों। नित्यश्रृंगारी: यह सजाना कभी नहीं रुकता। सुबह का अनुष्ठान फिर साधारण दिन नहीं। विष्णु हर पल सजाए जा रहे — लक्ष्मी की छाती पर उपस्थिति, वनमाला का आलिंगन, कौस्तुभ की दीप्ति, भक्त की प्रार्थना जो एक और पंखुड़ी की तरह उतरती। प्रेम का हर कर्म विष्णु का आभूषण। दादी की सुबह की प्रार्थना? पहन रहे। देहलीज़ का कोलम? पायल। सही chicory ratio की filter coffee? माला। प्रेम पाने वाला देवता नहीं। पहनने वाला। और पहनना स्थायी।

तिरुपति मंदिर परंपरा — हिंदू धर्म का सबसे विस्तृत श्रृंगार, तिरुमला वेंकटेश्वर अभिषेकम, ₹500 करोड़ से ज़्यादा के गहने। पर नित्यश्रृंगारी का सार हीरे नहीं। दैनिक ताज़े फूलों की माला: कमल, तुलसी, चमेली, तिरुचानूर गाँव की designated फूलवालियाँ हाथ से गूँथतीं, रात 3 उठकर अंधेरे में मंदिर बाग़ चलतीं, हर फूल छूकर चुनतीं — देखकर नहीं, छूकर, क्योंकि भगवान की माला का सही फूल देखने से पहले महसूस होना चाहिए। सन्नाटे में गूँथतीं, उँगलियाँ वही muscle memory जो श्रीरंगम की कोलम दादी — 5 AM माला तैयार। विष्णु की छाती छह घंटे छुएगी। फिर बदलेगी। फिर। हर दिन ताज़ी मालाओं की अटूट श्रृंखला, हज़ार साल से ज़्यादा। फूल श्रृंगार नहीं। 3 AM जागना। अंधेरे में चलना। देखने से पहले छूना। नित्यश्रृंगारी गहनों से नहीं — हज़ार साल से अंधेरे में सजाने वाले हाथों की अटूट श्रृंखला से सजे, और रुकेंगे नहीं क्योंकि प्रेम की expiry नहीं और फूल छूकर चुनने होते।
Modern Context · आज के संदर्भ में
पत्नी हर सुबह शर्ट iron करती। कहा — सच में, दिखावा नहीं — ख़ुद कर सकता हूँ। Iron चलाना दिखाया। जानती है capable। फिर भी। सोचती नहीं कर सकता इसलिए नहीं। दस मिनट iron — उसका श्रृंगार, जैसे फूलवालियाँ वेंकटेश्वर, बाध्यता नहीं, कोमलता जिसकी अंग्रेज़ी में vocabulary नहीं, किसी भाषा में आंशिक। शर्ट point नहीं। सिलवटें नहीं। दस मिनट — collar पर iron, सुबह की ख़बरें, pressure cooker की पहली सीटी — point। सजा रही। गहनों से नहीं। pressed cotton और बिना माँगी देखभाल के दस मिनट। हैदराबाद ऑफ़िस में शर्ट पहनोगे जिसे पहनने से पहले किसी ने छुआ। Colleagues नहीं जानेंगे। Manager नहीं। पर शर्ट कंधों पर अलग बैठेगी क्योंकि उन हाथों की गर्मी जिन्होंने अंधेरे में जागने से पहले iron करना चुना। यही नित्यश्रृंगारी सुबह 6 हैदराबाद के flat में: प्रेम में सजा देवता, पत्नी की iron की शर्ट पहना पति — माँगा नहीं क्योंकि प्रेम, मंदिर श्रृंगार की तरह, माँगने का इंतज़ार नहीं करता।
Meditation · ध्यान
Tomorrow morning, perform one act of shringara for someone you love — without being asked, without being noticed. Iron a shirt. Make the chai exactly how they like it. Place their shoes by the door so they do not have to search. Tuck the blanket around them before you leave. The act must be small. The act must be invisible. The act must be done the way the flower-women pick flowers — in the dark, by touch, before the recipient wakes. That is shringara. Not decoration. Adornment through care so quiet it is indistinguishable from air. After performing it, sit for 3 minutes and feel what the giving did to your chest. That warmth is what Vishnu feels when the garland is placed. You are both the dresser and the dressed. The love went through you. It adorned you both.

Chant 108 times while adorning a murti, a photo, or a sacred space — placing flowers, lighting a lamp, arranging the puja niche. The chanting IS the dressing. The mantra IS the garland. Use a tulsi mala. Voice tender and intimate, the voice of the flower-women in the dark — picking each syllable by touch, not by sight. Best performed at 5 AM, the hour of temple shringara, or at any moment when love wants to be expressed through the hands rather than the mouth.
