पितृप्रियः

The beloved of the ancestors; the deity who is dear to the pitṛs, the departed souls of all lineages who dwell in the ancestral realm and whose peace depends on the rites performed by the living

पितरों के प्रिय; वह देव जो सभी वंशों के पितरों, दिवंगत आत्माओं को प्रिय हैं जो पितृलोक में निवास करते हैं और जिनकी शान्ति जीवितों द्वारा किए गए अनुष्ठानों पर निर्भर करती है

भारत की गया श्राद्ध परम्परा, बोधगया में किया जाने वाला सबसे पवित्र पितृ-अनुष्ठान, गणेश पूजा से शुरू होती है; भारत भर से तीर्थयात्री अपने पूर्वजों को मुक्त करने वहाँ जाते हैं, और यह नाम गणेश को उस मुक्ति के सुगमकर्ता के रूप में स्थापित करता है।
