चिन्मय का अर्थ है चेतना से बना हुआ, भौतिक शरीर नहीं बल्कि शुद्ध consciousness। Chinmaya Mission (चिन्मय मिशन) इसी तत्त्व पर स्थापित है। जब ध्यान में शरीर भूल जाये और केवल awareness बचे, वही चिन्मय अवस्था है। Neuroscience जो consciousness study करती है, philosophy of mind, या AI researchers जो artificial consciousness पर काम करते हैं, सब चिन्मय तत्त्व से जूझ रहे हैं।
