वामन अवतार में भगवान विष्णु अदिति और कश्यप के पुत्र बने, इन्द्र के छोटे भाई। छोटा होकर भी बड़े से बड़ा काम किया, तीन कदमों में तीनों लोक नाप लिए। भारत में भी छोटे भाई-बहन अक्सर बड़ों से आगे निकल जाते हैं। परिवार में सबसे छोटा बच्चा जब IAS बन जाता है या विदेश जाकर नाम कमाता है, तो वो उपेन्द्र का ही अंश है।
