Adi Parva · Adhyaya 144

The Princes Show Their Skill in Arms

Drona tells Dhritarashtra that the princes have completed their training, and the blind king gladly lets him arrange a public display. An arena is measured out and built with viewing halls and platforms; the king, the royal women and the people of every class gather there, and Drona enters with Ashvatthama and performs the opening rites. The princes, led by Yudhishthira in order of age, show their skill with bow, chariot, horse, elephant, wrestling and sword and shield, and Duryodhana and Bhima come down into the arena with maces, while Vidura and Kunti describe everything to Dhritarashtra and Gandhari.
