Duryodhana Urges the Pandavas' Exile
Envious of Bhima and Arjuna, Duryodhana, Karna and Shakuni plot against the Pandavas, who quietly counter them on Vidura's advice. The citizens openly say that Yudhishthira should be crowned, since Dhritarashtra is blind and Bhishma has renounced the throne. Stung, Duryodhana warns his father that the kingdom will pass for ever to Pandu's line; Dhritarashtra recalls Pandu's goodness and fears the people's anger, but Duryodhana counts Drona, Ashvatthama and Kripa on his side and urges him to send the Pandavas and Kunti to Varanavata at once.

Then he, with Karna son of Vikartana and Shakuni son of Subala, sought by many devices to kill the Pandavas.
Note on the text: Corrected अनेकार → अनेकैर (misprint in Wikisource; the instrumental plural anekair, as in the critical edition).

pāṇḍavā api tatsarvaṃ praticakruryathābalam | udbhāvanamakurvanto vidurasya mate sthitāḥ
The Pandavas too countered all of it as far as their strength allowed, keeping to Vidura's counsel and never bringing the matter into the open.

Note on the text: Corrected प्रज्ञाश्चक्षुर → प्रज्ञाचक्षुर (misprint in Wikisource; the compound prajñācakṣur, as in the critical edition).
