Kunti Proposes the Journey to Panchala
Stirred by the Brahmin's account, the Pandavas pass a restless night with their thoughts on Draupadi. Kunti, seeing this, tells Yudhishthira that they have stayed long enough at Ekachakra, where alms are growing scarce, and proposes that they go to the prosperous land of the Panchalas. Her sons agree, and the family takes leave of their Brahmin host and sets out for Drupada's city.

Verse 1 (1.183.1)
etacchrutvā tataḥ sarve pāṇḍavā bharatarṣabha | manasā draupadīṃ jagmuranaṅgaśarapīḍitāḥ
Hearing this, O bull of the Bharatas, all the Pandavas went to Draupadi in their minds, tormented by the arrows of the bodiless god of love.
Note on the text: Removed a stray ।। and wiki quote mark (') before the closing ॥. Its opening words echo CE 1.156.1 (etac chrutvā), but the verse as a whole is not in the critical edition (found in the vulgate recension).
Verse 2 (1.183.2)
tatastāṃ rajanīṃ rājañchalyaviddhā ivābhavan | sarve cāsvasthamanaso babhūvuste mahābalāḥ
Then, O king, through that night they were like men pierced by a dart; all those mighty heroes were troubled in mind.
Note on the text: Aligned by hand with CE 1.156.1 (a variant first line; the second line differs only in mahārathāḥ for महाबलाः).
Verse 3 (1.183.3)
tataḥ kuntī sutāndṛṣṭvā sarvāṃstadgatacetasaḥ | yudhiṣṭhiramuvācedaṃ vacanaṃ satyavādinī
Then Kunti, who always spoke the truth, seeing all her sons with their hearts fixed on that, said these words to Yudhishthira:

Verse 4 (1.183.4)
cirarātroṣitāḥ smeha brāhmaṇasya niveśane | ramamāṇāḥ pure ramye labdhabhaikṣā mahātmanaḥ
We have lived here a long time in the house of this great-souled Brahmin, content in this pleasant town and receiving our alms.

Verse 5 (1.183.5)
yānīha ramaṇīyāni vanānyupavanāni ca | sarvāṇi tāni dṛṣṭāni punaḥpunararindama
All the lovely woods and groves here we have seen again and again, O tamer of foes.

Verse 6 (1.183.6)
punardṛṣṭāni tānīha prīṇayanti na nastathā | bhaikṣaṃ ca na tathā vīra labhyate kurunandana
Seen again, they no longer delight us as before; nor, hero, joy of the Kurus, are alms so easily had.
Note on the text: Speaker set to Kunti (her words to Yudhishthira, announced in verse 3; Wikisource prints no heading and the input carried Vaishampayana over).
Verse 7 (1.183.7)
te vayaṃ sādhu pañcālāngacchāma yadi manyase | apūrvadarśanaṃ vīra ramaṇīyaṃ bhaviṣyati
So let us go to the Panchalas, if you think it right. A place we have never seen will be a pleasure to see, hero.

Verse 8 (1.183.8)
subhikṣāścaiva pañcālāḥ śrūyante śatrukarśana | yajñasenaśca rājā'sau brahmaṇya iti śuśruma
Alms are said to be plentiful among the Panchalas, O scourge of foes, and we have heard that their king Yajnasena honours Brahmins.
Note on the text: Corrected सुश्रुम → शुश्रुम (misprint in Wikisource; स for श leaves no valid form — the perfect of श्रु, "we have heard"; the critical edition reads śuśrumaḥ). Speaker set to Kunti (her words to Yudhishthira, announced in verse 3; Wikisource prints no heading and the input carried Vaishampayana over).
Verse 9 (1.183.9)
ekatra ciravāsaśca kṣamo na ca mato mama | te tatra sādhu gacchāmo yadi tvaṃ putra manyase
To live long in one place does not seem right to me. So let us go there, my son, if you agree.

Whatever you think should be done is our highest good. But I do not know whether my younger brothers will want to go or not.

Then Kunti took leave of the Brahmin and, with the princes, set out for the lovely city of the great-souled Drupada.
