The Pandavas Choose Dhaumya as Their Priest

Arjuna asks the Gandharva to name a fitting priest, and he recommends Dhaumya, Devala's younger brother, who is practising austerities at the tirtha of Utkochaka. Arjuna gives the Gandharva the Agneya weapon; the Gandharva offers him fine horses and the Chakshushi lore, and Arjuna asks him to keep the horses until they are needed. The Pandavas go to Utkochaka, choose Dhaumya as their priest, and, after he has performed the rites for their safe journey, resolve to go to Draupadi's svayamvara. This closes the Chaitraratha section.

Note on the text: Corrected योज्या → याज्याः (misprint in Wikisource; ो for ा and a dropped visarga, as in the critical edition "yājyāḥ"). The first line is in the vulgate only (CE apparatus 1.174.14*1802); the second is the critical edition's 1.174.10cd (वृताः for "kṛtāḥ").

Endowed with intelligence, valour, strength and zeal like a second race of gods, the heroic Pandavas together deemed the kingdom already won.
