Devayani's Proposal and Kacha's Curse

As Kacha, his studies complete, prepares to return to heaven, Devayani asks him to marry her. Kacha refuses, saying that as his teacher's daughter she is like a sister to him, for both have dwelt in Shukra's belly. Devayani curses him that his knowledge will not bear fruit; Kacha in turn declares that no seer's son will ever marry her, and that his knowledge will bear fruit in those he teaches. He returns to the gods, who honour him for his deed.
