The Merits of Shraddha on the Lunar Days
Yudhishthira asks for the whole rule of shraddha, and Bhishma begins by saying that the ancestors are to be honoured before the gods by all beings. He describes the anvaharya shraddha offered month by month and then lists the fruit of performing shraddha on each lunar day from the first to the new-moon day: wives, daughters, horses, cattle, sons, farming, trade, gold and silver, kinship, war. He ends by naming the days from the tenth of the dark fortnight, except the fourteenth, as the best, and the afternoon as better than the forenoon.

Listen with attention, O king, to the auspicious rite of shraddha, which brings prosperity and fame and is the ancestors' sacrifice for the sake of sons, O scorcher of foes.

pitṝnpūjyāditaḥ paścāddevatāstarpayanti vai | tasmāttānsarvayatnena puruṣaḥ pūjayetsadā

O great king, the shraddha of the ancestors is called anvaharya. For this reason the rule that is laid down first is a special rule.
Verse 7 (13.134.7)

When shraddha is performed, the grandfathers are pleased on every day. A Brahmin who keeps the sacred fires should perform the pinda-shraddha called anvaharya month after month, once he has completed the ancestors' sacrifice at the waning of the moon.
