The Worm Becomes a Brahmin

Reborn as a kshatriya, the former worm remembers his past and goes to the forest to practise austerity. Vyasa comes and tells him to return and protect all beings by the kshatriya duty, promising brahminhood after he lays down that body. He rules justly and in time is born a brahmin. Vyasa visits him again and tells him not to fear death, since each is born according to his deeds. The worm thanks him, performs hundreds of sacrifices, and reaches the world of Brahma. Bhishma ends by telling Yudhishthira not to grieve for the kshatriyas who died at Kurukshetra.
