Worthy Recipients of Gifts; Deeds That Lead to Hell and to Heaven

Yudhishthira asks to whom a gift made in a rite for the gods or the ancestors bears great fruit. Bhishma names the needy and deserving recipients, such as those who are poor but upright, robbed, ruined by war, or bound by vows. He then lists in turn the kinds of men who go to hell, among them adulterers, plunderers, breakers of public works, sellers of the Veda, and those who eat before their dependants, and the kinds who go to heaven, among them those who give, protect, found and serve.
