Parashurama Rids the Earth of Kshatriyas
Parashurama laments over his murdered father, performs the funeral rites and vows to destroy the whole warrior class. He kills the sons of Kartavirya and their followers, clears the earth of kshatriyas twenty-one times, fills five lakes of blood at Samantapanchaka, and, restrained by Richika, gives the earth to the priests and a golden altar to Kashyapa before settling to austerities on Mount Mahendra. Vaishampayana then tells how Rama appeared on the fourteenth day to Yudhishthira and the brahmins, and how Yudhishthira, honoured by him, set out southwards.
