Sarasvati Instructs Tarkshya
Markandeya relates what the goddess Sarasvati taught the wise sage Tarkshya when he asked her about the highest good. She describes the heavenly worlds won by knowing Brahman and by gifts of cows, oxen, clothing, gold, land and a daughter in marriage, and explains who may offer the agnihotra and how. Revealing that she has come from the sacred fire, she ends by describing the supreme, ancient abode of the liberated, with its fragrant reed-tree and rivers of honey, where the gods once worshipped with their sacrifices.
