The Hunter Sends Kaushika Home and Tells of His Former Birth
After presenting his parents to the brahmin Kaushika, the righteous hunter explains that the faithful wife foresaw this meeting, and tells Kaushika that he wronged his own aged parents by leaving home without their leave to study the Veda; they have gone blind with grief, and he must go back at once and serve them. Kaushika gratefully promises to do so and asks how a man so wise in dharma came to be born a shudra. The hunter reveals that in a former life he was a learned brahmin who, while hunting with a king who was his friend, wounded a sage with an arrow by mistake and was cursed to be born a hunter.
