Devasena's Destined Husband and Agni's Desire

The maiden tells Indra she is Devasena, daughter of Prajapati, whose sister Daityasena has been carried off by Keshin, and that her husband is to be a mighty conqueror of gods and demons. Seeing an ominous conjunction of moon, sun and fire at the dawn of the new moon, Indra reasons that a son born of Agni would be that husband, and Brahma confirms it: the child will be Indra's general and Devasena's lord. At the sacrifice of the Seven Seers, Agni comes forth from the sun to receive the oblations, sees the seers' wives and is overcome with desire; unable to have them, he goes to the forest resolved to die. Svaha, daughter of Daksha, who has long loved him, resolves to take the forms of the seers' wives and win him.
