Baka Dalbhya on Brahmins and Kings
With the Pandavas living at Dvaitavana, the forest fills with brahmins and rings with Vedic recitation mingled with the twang of the Pandavas' bowstrings. The sage Baka Dalbhya tells Yudhishthira that brahmin and kshatriya power together burn up enemies as fire and wind burn a forest: a king who would prosper in this world and the next must keep a wise brahmin beside him, as the fall of Bali shows. The brahmins honour Baka and rejoice in Yudhishthira's praise, and a host of great sages, from Dvaipayana and Narada onward, come to pay him homage.
