The Brothers Fall at the Lake
Yaksha Prashna, chapter 1 of 2
Worn out after a fruitless chase in the forest, the Pandavas rest beneath a tree, and each brother blames himself for their misfortunes. Yudhishthira sends Nakula to find water; at a clear lake a voice from the sky forbids him to drink until he has answered its questions, and when he drinks anyway he falls dead. Sahadeva, Arjuna and Bhima follow one after another and meet the same end. Troubled by their long absence, Yudhishthira sets out through the forest himself and comes upon the wondrous lake.
