Agastya Seeks Wealth from Three Kings
Agastya goes to beg wealth from King Shrutarvan, who receives him at his border and lays his accounts before him; finding income and outlay exactly balanced, the sage will take nothing, since any gift would burden living beings. The same happens with Bradhnashva and then with Trasadasyu, son of Purukutsa, each joining the party in turn. At last the three kings propose that they all go to the rich Danava Ilvala and ask him for wealth, and they set out together.

Note on the text: Corrected अर्ध्यं → अर्घ्यं (misprint in Wikisource; the critical edition reads arghyaṃ) and removed stray wiki marks (` and ') around the third line. That third line is not in the critical edition's text (vulgate recension; its apparatus records it as 3.96.8d*0487); the first two lines are 3.96.8.
