Dhritarashtra Consoles Yudhishthira on the Ganga Bank
After the water-offering to the dead in the Ganga, Yudhishthira climbs out and collapses on the bank in grief; Bhima holds him up and the Pandavas sit round him. Dhritarashtra bids him rise and enjoy the earth won by the warrior's dharma, and confesses that it is he and Gandhari who have cause for sorrow, having ignored Vidura's warnings about Duryodhana.

Verse 3 (14.1.3)
तं सीदमानं जग्राह भीमः कृष्णेन चोदितः । मैवमित्यब्रवीच्चैनं कृष्णः परबलार्दनः ॥
taṃ sīdamānaṃ jagrāha bhīmaḥ kṛṣṇena coditaḥ | maivamityabravīccainaṃ kṛṣṇaḥ parabalārdanaḥ
As he sank down, Bhima, urged on by Krishna, caught hold of him; and Krishna, the crusher of hostile armies, said to him, "Not so."
Verse 4 (14.1.4)
तमार्तं पतितं भूमौ श्वसन्तं च पुनः पुनः । ददृशुः पार्थिवा राजन्धर्मपुत्रं युधिष्ठिरम् ॥
tamārtaṃ patitaṃ bhūmau śvasantaṃ ca punaḥ punaḥ | dadṛśuḥ pārthivā rājandharmaputraṃ yudhiṣṭhiram
O king, the rulers saw Yudhishthira, son of Dharma, lying afflicted on the ground, breathing hard again and again.

Seeing the king despondent, his strength gone, the Pandavas, overcome again by grief, sat down beside him.
Note on the text: Corrected त दृष्ट्वा → तं दृष्ट्वा (misprint in Wikisource; dropped anusvara; the critical edition has taṃ dṛṣṭvā). Removed stray footnote letter क after पाण्डवाः.

And King Dhritarashtra, the wise, whose only sight was wisdom, himself downcast, spoke to that mighty-armed lord of men.
Note on the text: The alignment found no match; this is the variant of CE 14,001.006 (rājā ca dhṛtarāṣṭras tam upāsīno mahābhujaḥ / vākyam āha mahāprājño mahāśokaprapīḍitam).

It is I and Gandhari who ought to grieve, O lord of the earth, whose hundred sons are lost, like wealth gained in a dream.
Note on the text: Variant of CE 14,001.009 (second line there: putrair vihīno rājyena svapnalabdhadhano yathā); the alignment found no match.

uktavānviduro yanmāṃ dharmātmā divyadarśanaḥ | duryodhanāparādhena kulaṃ te vinaśiṣyati

atha necchasi rājānaṃ kuntīputraṃ yudhiṣṭhiram | vināśamupayāsyanti tava putrā na saṃśayaḥ | meḍhībhūtaḥ svayaṃ rājyaṃ pratigṛhṇīṣva pārthiva
But if you do not want Kunti's son Yudhishthira as king, your sons will surely come to ruin; so make yourself the central post that supports all, and take the kingdom yourself, O king.
Note on the text: Corrected विनाशमुपयास्तन्ति → विनाशमुपयास्यन्ति (misprint in Wikisource; the critical edition's star line has upayāsyanti). Removed the backtick and quote marks around the middle line. First and third lines = CE 14,001.015a and 015c; the middle line = CE star passage 14,001.015b*0004_01.

अश्रुत्वा तस्य धीरस्य वाक्यानि मधुराण्यहम् । फलं प्राप्य महद्दुःखं निमग्नः शोकसागरे ॥
aśrutvā tasya dhīrasya vākyāni madhurāṇyaham | phalaṃ prāpya mahadduḥkhaṃ nimagnaḥ śokasāgare
