Ashvatthama Driven from the Field
Arjuna and Ashvatthama fight like two planets in collision; Arjuna wards off his arrows, turns on the Samshaptakas and cuts down their weapons and heads, and breaks the elephant-borne assault of the Kalingas, Vangas, Angas and Nishadas. Ashvatthama returns and wounds both Krishnas; Krishna urges Arjuna to finish him, and Arjuna pierces him with arrows from the Gandiva until his horses bear him away, and he enters Karna's army. Krishna and Arjuna turn back toward the Samshaptakas.
