Arjuna Slays Vrishasena
Seeing Nakula unhorsed and Krishna wounded, Arjuna attacks Vrishasena, who wounds both Arjuna and Krishna with his arrows. Furious, Arjuna warns Karna that he will kill Vrishasena before his eyes and then Karna himself, and with four arrows he cuts off Vrishasena's bow, arms and head. As Karna's chariot comes on, Krishna points out its banner and charioteer and urges Arjuna to kill Karna, reminding him that he has won Shiva's favor in battle. Arjuna vows to kill Karna or be killed, and Krishna drives the horses swiftly up to Karna's chariot.

Verse 1 (8.90.1)
tataḥ kirīṭī paravīraghātī | hatāśvamālokya narapravīram | mādrīsutaṃ nakulaṃ lokamadhye | samīkṣya kṛṣṇaṃ bhṛśavikṣataṃ ca | tamabhyadhāvadvṛṣasenamāhave | sa sūtajasya pramukhe sthitastadā
Then Kirita, the slayer of enemy heroes, seeing that the hero Nakula, Madri's son, had lost his horses in the midst of the field, and seeing Krishna sorely wounded, rushed at Vrishasena in the battle; and he then stood before the charioteer's son.

Line 6 is the page's own and reads स्थितस्तदा where the CE has sthitaṃ tadā (recension variant, kept).
Verse 2 (8.90.2)
तमापतन्तं नरवीरमुग्रं । महाहवे बाणसहस्रधारिणम् । अभ्यापतत्कर्णसुतो महारथं । यथा महेन्द्रं नमुचिः पुरा तथा ॥
tamāpatantaṃ naravīramugraṃ | mahāhave bāṇasahasradhāriṇam | abhyāpatatkarṇasuto mahārathaṃ | yathā mahendraṃ namuciḥ purā tathā
Against him, as he came — a fierce hero among men, bearing thousands of arrows in the great battle — Karna's son charged, as Namuci once charged Mahendra.
Verse 3 (8.90.3)
तौ तत्र शूरौ रथकुञ्जरौ रणे । परस्परस्याभिमुखौ महारथौ । ससर्जतुः शरसङ्घाननेकान् । सम्भ्रान्तरूपौ सुभृशं तदानीम् ॥
tau tatra śūrau rathakuñjarau raṇe | parasparasyābhimukhau mahārathau | sasarjatuḥ śarasaṅghānanekān | sambhrāntarūpau subhṛśaṃ tadānīm
There those two heroes, lions among chariot-warriors, great car-warriors facing each other in the battle, loosed many flights of arrows, both greatly excited then.

tato drutaṃ caikaśareṇa pārthaṃ | śitena viddhvā yudhi karṇaputraḥ | nanāda nādaṃ sumahānubhāvo | viddhveva śakraṃ namuciḥ sa vīraḥ
Then Karna's son, quickly piercing Partha in the fight with a single sharp arrow, gave a mighty roar, that great hero, like Namuci after he had pierced Shakra.
Verse 5 (8.90.5)
पुनः स पार्थं वृषसेन उग्रैः । बाणैरविद्ध्यद्भुजमूले तु सव्ये । तथैव कृष्णं नवभिः समार्दयत् । पुनश्च पार्थं दशभिर्जघान ॥

Again Vrishasena pierced Partha with fierce arrows at the root of his left arm, afflicted Krishna likewise with nine, and struck Partha again with ten.

pūrvaṃ yathā vṛṣasenaprayuktaiḥ | abhyāhataḥ śvetahayaḥ śaraistaiḥ | saṃrambhamīṣadgamito vadhāya | karṇātmajasyātha manaḥ pradadhre
Struck, as before, by those arrows shot by Vrishasena, the white-horsed Arjuna, somewhat roused to rage, set his mind on the killing of Karna's son.

Then Kirita, in fury at the head of the battle, drawing his brow into three furrows on his forehead, swiftly loosed his arrows, set on the killing of Karna's son in the fight; the great-souled one, his eyes reddened, a very Death to his foes, spoke to Karna, laughing loudly:

ūnaṃ ca tāvaddhi janā vadanti | sarvairbhavadbhirmama sūnurhato'sau | eko ratho madvihīnastarasvī | ahaṃ haniṣye bhavatāṃ samakṣam
People speak of a shortcoming here — that all of you together killed that son of mine, a lone and valiant chariot-warrior, when I was not with him. I shall kill him in front of all of you.
Note on the text: Not in the critical edition's constituted text (found in the vulgate recension); it is lines 0009–0012 of the CE's Appendix I No. 35 (8.62.59b@035_0009–0012); lines 1–2 read ऊनं च तावद्धि … सर्वैर्भवद्भिः where the CE has yamasya yāvad dhi janā vadanti … bhavadbhiḥ sarvaiḥ (recension variant, kept). Today, in this battle, I shall kill you by force — you, the root of the quarrel, whose pride was born of reliance on Duryodhana; and Bhimasena shall kill in battle this very Duryodhana, the vilest of men, through whose misdeeds this great destruction has come."
