Draupadi's Demand; Bhima Pursues Ashvatthama
Nakula brings Draupadi to the grieving Yudhishthira. She bitterly congratulates him on the hollow victory and vows to fast to death unless Ashvatthama is killed, asking for the jewel he wears on his head. Yudhishthira answers that Ashvatthama has fled far away, but Draupadi appeals to Bhima, recalling his past rescues of the Pandavas and herself. Bhima takes his bow, makes Nakula his charioteer and sets out on Ashvatthama's trail.

Verse 1 (10.11.1)
sa dṛṣṭvā nihatānsaṅkhye putrānpautrānsakhīṃstathā | mahāduḥkhaparītātmā babhūva janamejaya
Seeing his sons, grandsons and friends slain in battle, he was overwhelmed with great sorrow, O Janamejaya.
Note on the text: Corrected पात्रौन् → पौत्रान् (misprint in Wikisource; पात्रौन् is not a word; the sense and metre need पौत्रान्, "grandsons" (the critical edition words the half-line differently: putrān bhrātṝn sakhīṃs tathā)). The raw page is the right adhyaya (labels 10-11-1 … 10-11-32; colophon एकादशोऽध्यायः). It prints the same 32 verses as the input. In the critical edition the line reads putrān bhrātṝn sakhīṃs tathā.
Verse 2 (10.11.2)
tatastasya mahāñśokaḥ prādurāsīnmahātmanaḥ | smarataḥ putrapautrāṃstānbhrātṝnsuhṛda eva ca
Then great grief arose in that great-souled king as he remembered his sons and grandsons, his brothers and his friends.
Verse 3 (10.11.3)
tamaśruparipūrṇākṣaṃ vepamānamacetasam | suhṛdo bhṛśasaṃvignāḥ sāṃtvayāñcakrire tadā
His friends, deeply troubled, then consoled him, whose eyes were full of tears, who trembled and was senseless.
Verse 4 (10.11.4)
kṛtvā tu vidhivatteṣāṃ putrāṇāmamitaujasām | pretakāryāṇi sarveṣāṃ babhūva bhṛśaduḥkhitaḥ
Having duly performed the funeral rites for all those sons of boundless might, he was in deep distress.
Note on the text: Removed the backtick and quote mark round the verse (wiki marks). Removed the closing quote mark. Not in the critical edition's constituted text (found in the vulgate recension); the critical edition records it in its apparatus as the star passage 10.11.3c*0052 (lines 01–02).
Verse 5 (10.11.5)
tasminmuhūrte javanairvājibhirhemamālibhiḥ | nakulaḥ kṛṣṇayā sārdhamupāyātparamārtayā
At that moment Nakula arrived with Krishna, who was in the deepest anguish, on swift horses wearing golden garlands.
Note on the text: Not matched by the alignment; line 1 is the critical edition's star passage 10.11.4a*0053_01, line 2 its 4c (नकुलः कृष्णया सार्धमुपायात्परमार्तया for nakulaḥ kṛṣṇayā sārdham upāyāt paramārtayā). The constituted line 4a (tatas tasmin kṣaṇe kālye rathenādityavarcasā) is worded differently.
Verse 6 (10.11.6)
upaplāvyaṃ gatā sā tu śrutvā sumahadapriyam | tadā vināśaṃ sarveṣāṃ putrāṇāṃ vyathitendriyā
She had been staying at Upaplavya, and when she heard the dreadful news of the destruction of all her sons, her senses reeled.
Verse 7 (10.11.7)
kampamāneva kadalī vātenābhisamīritā | kṛṣṇā rājānamāsādya śokārtā nyapatadbhuvi
Trembling like a plantain tree shaken by the wind, Krishna reached the king and fell to the ground in grief.
Verse 8 (10.11.8)

na babhau vadanaṃ tasyā rudantyāḥ śokakarśitam | phullapadmapalāśākṣyā meghāvṛta ivoḍurāṭ
The face of the lotus-eyed woman, weeping and wasted with sorrow, did not shine; it was like the moon veiled by clouds.
Note on the text: Not matched by the alignment; corresponds to the critical edition's 10.11.7 (differently worded: babhūva vadanaṃ tasyāḥ sahasā śokakarśitam / phullapadmapalāśākṣyās tamodhvasta ivāṃśumān).
Verse 9 (10.11.9)
tatastāṃ patitāṃ dṛṣṭvā saṃrambhī satyavikramaḥ | bāhubhyāṃ parijagrāha samutpatya vṛkodaraḥ
Seeing her fallen, Vrikodara, of true valour, leapt up in agitation and caught her in his arms.
Note on the text: Corrected वाहुभ्यां → बाहुभ्यां (misprint in Wikisource; व for ब; the critical edition reads bāhubhyāṃ).
Verse 10 (10.11.10)
sā samāśvāsitā tena bhīmasenena bhāminī | rudatī pāṇḍavajyeṣṭhamidaṃ vacanamabravīt
Comforted by Bhimasena, the lady spoke these words, weeping, to the eldest of the Pandavas.

By good fortune, you who are skilled in every weapon and walk like a rutting elephant will win the whole earth and will not remember Saubhadra.
Note on the text: Corrected मत्तमातङ्गामिनम् → मत्तमातङ्गगामिनम् (misprint in Wikisource; a dropped ग; the critical edition reads mattamātaṅgagāminam). Not matched by the alignment; line 1 is the critical edition's 10.11.11a (दिष्ट्या सर्वास्त्रकुशलं … for diṣṭyā tvaṃ pārtha kuśalī) and line 2 its 11c. Between them the critical edition prints Appendix I No. 1 (32 lines, 10,011.011b@001_0001–0032), which the page lacks.
Verse 13 (10.11.13)
ātmajānkṣatradharmeṇa śrutvā śūrānnipātitān | sthito rājye mayā sārdhaṃ viharanna smariṣyasi

Hearing of the slaughter of the sleeping by the sinful son of Drona, deep grief burns me, as fire burns its own dwelling.
Verse 15 (10.11.15)
tasya pāpakṛto drauṇerna cedadya durātmanaḥ | hiyate sānubandhasya yudhi vikramya jīvitam
If today, by valour in battle, the life of that sinful, evil-minded son of Drona is not taken, together with his followers,
Verse 16 (10.11.16)
ihaiva prāyamāsiṣye tannibodhata pāṇḍavāḥ | na cetphalamavāpnoti drauṇiḥ pāpasya karmaṇaḥ
then I shall sit down right here to fast until death. Know this, Pandavas: unless the son of Drona receives the fruit of his sinful deed.

droṇaputrasya sahajo maṇiḥ śirasi me śrutaḥ | nihatya saṅkhye taṃ pāpaṃ paśyeyaṃ maṇimāhṛtam | drauṇeḥ śirasa utkṛtya jīveyamiti me matiḥ
I have heard that the son of Drona has a jewel born with him on his head. After killing that sinner in battle, I would see that jewel brought; I would cut it from the head of Drona's son and live. That is my resolve.
Note on the text: Speaker: Draupadi, as the page's heading द्रौपद्युवाच has it (the critical edition names her likewise, 10,011.020). Three-line verse: the critical edition's 10.11.20a, 20c and 20e (line 3 differently worded).
