Kripa Urges Rest; Ashvatthama Cannot Sleep
Kripa approves Ashvatthama's wish to retaliate but urges him to rest tonight: he and Kritavarma will follow him at dawn and together they will destroy the Panchalas and Pandavas. Ashvatthama replies in anger that no one racked by grief, resentment and the memory of his father's death can sleep. He recalls his father's killing, Duryodhana's lament with broken thighs, and the defeat of his friends, and says no one can turn him from his purpose; only after the night's slaughter will he rest.
