The Marriage of Shvetaketu and Suvarchala
Yudhishthira asks whether a man can live as a householder and yet be free of worldly existence, and Bhishma tells of Devala's daughter Suvarchala, who will marry only a man who is blind and not blind. The assembled sages leave offended, until Shvetaketu, Uddalaka's son, explains the riddle as mastery of the senses and is accepted. After their marriage Suvarchala questions him on who he is and on the relation of word to meaning, and he teaches her that the Supreme is beyond speech yet known through the Veda. Living as householders in this knowledge, the two reach the highest goal.

If the secret I have spoken has been heard by you without being taken in, good lady, or if, pure one with eyes of knowledge, you accept it simply as true: that is knowledge.

anena pūrṇametaddhi hṛdi bhūtamiheṣyate | etāvadātmavijñānametāvadyadahaṃ smṛtam | āvayorna ca satve vai tasmādajñānabandhanam
By him all this is filled, and he is held to be present in the heart. This much is knowledge of the Self; this much is what I have declared. Since in truth there is no being in the two of us, the bond is one of ignorance.'
