Bali Tells Indra That Time Rules All
Indra taunts Bali again about his fall. Bali answers that he does not grieve: bodies and fortunes end, no one is the true doer, and Time takes and gives all things. He recalls his former might, says that only Time standing over him keeps him from striking Indra down, and describes Time as the unseen Lord whom some call Fire or Prajapati. He warns Indra that thousands of Indras have passed away, that Shri never stays in one place, and that she will leave him too.

Then Shakra, laughing, spoke to him again in this way, as he sighed like a snake, to draw a reply from him, O Bharata.
Note on the text: Corrected पुनेरव → पुनरेव, सं → तं, अहसन् → प्रहसन्, गायं → नागं, प्रत्याहाराय → प्रव्याहाराय (misprints in Wikisource; garbled letters, CE 12.217.1 reads punar eva tu taṃ śakraḥ prahasann idam abravīt / niḥśvasantaṃ yathā nāgaṃ pravyāhārāya bhārata; the page's own footnote also gives यथा नागं प्रव्याहाराय). Put aside pride and arrogance, king of the gods, and listen to me. In the past I behaved towards you with great sincerity.
Note on the text: Removed a stray backtick opening the passage. The verse is the CE star passage 12.217.5*0640_01-02 (printed in the CE apparatus before 12.217.5a under the heading "balir uvāca"). Not in the critical edition's constituted text (star passage).

The turn of time is unavoidable, and with it one's own state changes. Not knowing the greatness of the world …
Note on the text: Removed the dashes and closing quote mark (-------।।') printed after the second line; the line is incomplete in Wikisource and in the CE, where it is the CE star passage 12.217.5*0640_03-04 and line 4 breaks off after "avidaṃl lokamāhātmya" followed by asterisks (a lost half-line).
